Monthly Dinner Meeting
Topic: "Managing Growth - From Small to Mid-Size and Beyond" Speaker: Arash Khazei, CFO, NYX Cosmetics
This presentation will look at challenges faced by a CFO in a very rapidly growing company. The presentation will outline issues faced by the executive team and provide strategies to manage through the growth cycle.
As one business author has noted, small and mid-size businesses that catch fire enter a kind of "no man's land" that can, if not handled properly lead a business to flame out and die. Growth is change. Too much growth too quickly will create financial, operational and continuity risks that if not properly managed can lead to demise of the company. Mr. Khazei is currently serving as Chief Financial Officer at NYX Cosmetics, a private equity backed, consumer products company. The company maintains one of the broadest product offerings in the industry and across many distribution channels. In this highly complex and fast moving environment, he focuses on two main areas of responsibility. He has implemented systems to expand the back office (HR, IT, Finance and Operations) capabilities to support 50% annualized growth rate for the past two years.
Mr. Khazei is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Canadian Chartered Accountant (CA).

Lunch & Learn Webinar
Topic: "Medicare Compliance Challenges in the Age of Healthcare Accountability"
Speaker: Dr. John Zelem, MC, FACS, Senior Director, Audit, Compliance and Education for Executive Health Resources
The Federal government has put measures in place to reduce Medicare and Medicaid waste and fraud, as a part of the larger healthcare reform program. Throughout the past few years, the government has identified billions of dollars improperly paid through Medicare and Medicaid programs. As a result, hospitals now face a new era of healthcare audit accountability. This era is full of a variety of Program Integrity Contractor initiatives and a veritable alphabet soup of acronyms. It is essential for hospitals to understand the roles of each group, how to deal with their findings and, when and how to appeal them. In addition, hospitals must be sure to have strong concurrent compliance programs in place to mitigate risk moving forward.
Dr. Zelem currently serves as a Senior Director, Audit, Compliance and Education for Executive Health Resources (EHR). A Board Certified general surgeon with more than 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Zelem is responsible for quality assessment and improvement at EHR's client hospitals. Dr. Zelem is also a member of EHR's physician education team and regularly visits EHR's client hospitals to provide medical executives and staff members with ongoing education on a variety of topics including Medicare and Medicaid compliance and regulations, medical necessity, Recovery Audit Contractors, utilization review, denials management and length of stay.
