Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department Announces New   'OK TEAM!' Program

New program to help tourism industry partners across the state strengthen their marketing efforts

The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (OTRD) is pleased to announce the unveiling of a new program this week whose goal is to strengthen the continued efforts and opportunities of tourism entities across the state.

OK TEAM! (which stands for Tourism Enhancement, Advertising, & Marketing) is a new program where members of the OTRD staff work directly with tourism attractions and community leaders to create a strategic tourism marketing approach. OK TEAM! will offer tourism entities the opportunity to strengthen and develop their efforts in areas such as advertising, public relations, brochures & publications, package tour development, direct sales marketing, and many other important aspects related to successful tourism marketing and development.

OK TEAM! is meant to help tourism entities and communities across the state take full advantage of the resources they have available to them, while at the same time, allow communities to develop new resources that may have been considered unavailable or undiscovered until now. The OK TEAM! program is an excellent opportunity for the OTRD and interested tourism communities to share the knowledge, experience, and support that are vital in growing tourism in Oklahoma.

Only four tourism communities will be selected to join OK TEAM! this year, each one representing a different region of the state. Those interested in joining need to fill out the OK TEAM! application which is made available by emailing Barbara Elder at Barbie@travelok.com

Applications and supporting documents must be submitted by December 12, 2008.

Selections will be announced by January 16, 2009.

Commerce Plans Economic Development Conference

Annual Conference Will Be Held December 10-12

The Oklahoma Department of Commerce will hold the Community and Economic Development Conference on December 10-12. The annual conference will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City.

Vaughn Clark, Commerce Director of Community Development said the meeting will offer information, tools and resources available to help communities and provide a forum to discuss economic development related issues, trends and best practices for Oklahoma communities.

"The conference provides a great atmosphere to forge strong regional alliances that will be required to successfully overcome challenges in growing local economic development efforts," Clark said. "These ideas and resources can be taken back home and implemented to enhance Oklahoma communities."  He said issues like local capacity, planning, leadership, and revitalization will be examined.

The 2008 Community and Economic Development Conference will also recognize and honor those entities and individuals who have demonstrated leadership and achieved community and economic development success.

The conference cost is $95 and includes meals and materials. Hotel costs are separate.

The deadline for conference and hotel registration is November 14th. To register, visit the Oklahoma Commerce website. A block of rooms has been reserved through November 14th for this conference. Ask for the Community and Economic Development Conference when making reservations.
