YEAR OF THE CHAPTER MEETING - Getting back to the FUNdamentals
|
Dwayne Cooper SWD President president@swd.org
The motto for 2009 was "Year of the Chapter" as we all realize that the chapter level is where our Society lives and breathes. For 2010 it is appropriate to tighten our focus to "Year of the Chapter Meeting", knowing that the Chapter meeting is where the rubber meets the road in retention and recruitment of members. Contact your Division Managing Director (or email me!) to get some more specific ideas on how to have a more exciting chapter meeting.
As we begin a new year, let me provide you with a few thoughts to encourage your chapter to step back and take a look at where you can make some improvements.

Chapter Secretaries Time to Get
Down to Business
|
Gary Hannah
SWD Secretary SWD eBiz Coordinator secretary@swd.org
Well, now that we have the
holidays behind us it's time to get down to business. Here are a few
areas that chapter secretaries need to focus on right now:
-
If you haven't reported your chapter's 2010 officers on eBiz,
please do so NOW. In the event you find you cannot do this because
- (a)
you don't know how to use eBiz or even what an eBiz is, or
- (b) you didn't
report at least a chapter secretary before the end of the calendar year and
thus are locked out of that area of eBiz, or
- (c) you just inherited the job.....
CALL ME at 361-739-9300 so I can get you and your chapter back into the
communications loop.

Jim Halcarz VP Music and Performance
Houston Tidelanders
SWD Director of Chorus Director Development dir-cdd@swd.org
Youth in Harmony workshops are a great way to
introduce barbershop to young men. Often, it is difficult to get teachers to

2010: Here We Come, Ready Or Else!
|
Brooks HarkeySWD Director of Membership Developmentdir-m@swd.org
As the sun swings us nearer and nearer to what we refer to as its 2,010th trip around the sun, I hope each chapter is gearing up plans and committees to enhance membership growth during 2010. Be sure you look back at what you'd planned to do in 2009 - did it work? If it did, can it be repeated? If it didn't work, why? And what can be done instead? Besides all the academia, the work plans, the carefully crafted e-mails, the committee meetings, bringing in new members finally boils down to "Somebody has to actually say 'Would you come and sing with me?' to another individual. It's that simple. Newspaper ads won't stem our membership loss, nor will radio spots. In the end, it takes the personal touch. More information - CLICK HERE

Mini-Top Gun Held In Oklahoma
|
By Brian Hogan
When Mark Holdeman mentioned last summer that he as the District Music and Performance VP needed to find somebody in Oklahoma who was willing to produce a MINI-TOP GUN quartet school several of the Oklahoma members of the SWD Quartet Champions Association saw an opportunity to perform a relevant service by matching our know-how to the need. And, since the TOP GUN program has historically been a joint enterprise of the district and the QCA, it seemed like a logical extension for the Oklahoma QCA men to run the MINI-TOP GUN.More Information - CLICK HERE

Tulsa Chapter shows American Harmony
|
By Jan Skinner President Tulsa Founders Chorus
The Tulsa People editors learned of this & felt it would be a newsworthy item to include in their December issue. The first night opening featured the past International competition quartet, The Tulsa Tradition, who came back together after 10 years for this. Later in the week, the Founders Chorus held its weekly rehearsal at a showing.
