A Personal Message From Rick Rodell
Holiday Greetings From Cornerstone CEO / Chairman

CEO/Chairman Rick Rodell

Greetings,

Last year around this time I wrote that it had been an interesting year.  Apparently what King Solomon said in the book of Ecclesiastes still holds true: "there is nothing new under the sun."  This has been another year full of surprises, threats, wars and rumors of wars, a global economy that has problem areas from North to South and East to West.

However, despite all of that, business goes on and it is customers like you that I want to thank for allowing us to be a part of your distribution network, and to our vendors a large thanks for helping us take care of those customers.

I want to wish all of you, and Cornerstone's employees, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and if you celebrate something else I trust that it will be blessed.   Last time I hoped for a better New Year in 2010, and I'll hope we have a better 2011 with some real progress in jobs, peace that is so sorely needed in so many places, and of course, a safe return for our troops and all who serve this great nation in harm's way.

Thanks again to you our customers; you are vendors, and all of you who work for Cornerstone.  May 2011 be a real turning point back to stability and peace throughout the world.

Regards,

Rick

Which CS Office Moves 2nd Largest Seated Lincoln?

Special Shipment Arrives In Stanville, Kentucky

Second Largest Seated Lincoln

A 19-foot high statue of Abraham Lincoln now sits in a small rural town in Southeastern Kentucky.

The statue was commissioned by Attorney Eric C. Conn and took over a year to build at a total cost of over half a million dollars.

The statue is an enlarged replica of a statue in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.  It is the second largest seated Lincoln statue in the world. The largest one is indeed the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The public unveiling took place on Thursday, November 4, 2010 in honor of the first and only Kentuckian, Abraham Lincoln, that was elected to the Presidency of the United States.  Attorney Eric C. Conn stated that the statue's purpose is to remind Kentuckians that Abraham Lincoln was a Kentuckian.

The statue weighs well over a ton and had to be put in place by a crane. It had to be delivered in three pieces due to its large size.  So which Cornerstone office had the honor of coordinating this special shipment?  Congratulations goes to Cornerstone's Portsmouth, Virginia office!  Great job Portsmouth!

CSA Goes Live & Carriers Can Access Safety Scores, Retail Sales Continue to Climb, Cargo Theft Soars In Holiday Periods, Cross-border Trade Grew At Healthy Pace
News

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said Monday its Compliance Safety and Accountability system, which measures carriers' safety records, is now live.  FMCSA said carriers' safety scores are publicly available under CSA, which formerly stood for Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010, or CSA 2010.  "We worked closely with our partners in the motor vehicle community to develop this powerful new program," FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro said Monday.  "CSA is an important new tool that will help reduce commercial vehicle-related crashes and save lives," she said in a statement.  Carriers may access the site here: http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/sms (U.S. government website.)  Due to high volume and interest, the website was temporarily disabled Monday as the program triggered a huge demand for access.

Retail sales continued to rise, increasing 0.8% in November, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday.  The fifth straight gain followed a revised 1.7% gain in October that was more than the 1.2% originally reported and the biggest in seven months.  The upturn topped economists' forecasts of a 0.6% increase, Bloomberg reported.

Security firms are urging cargo interests, warehouse operators and transportation companies to take added security measures during the holiday season to protect against cargo theft.  A survey by security technology provider FreightWatch International found cargo theft during seven U.S. holiday periods over the past two years was 28 percent higher than during non-holiday periods.  Cargo theft generally increases during the New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays primarily because cargo is not in motion or is left unattended during those holiday periods.

A total of 6.2 million trucks crossed the eastern U.S.-Canada border so far in 2010, with growth across all 10 bridges.  The three principal crossings for international trade all showed year-to-date increases. Some 2.1 million trucks crossed the Ambassador Bridge at Detroit, a 17.8 percent increase. The Blue Water Bridge at Port Huron, Mich., tallied 1.3 million trucks, a 9 percent increase. The Peace Bridge at Buffalo, N.Y., carried 1.1 million trucks, a 10.4 percent increase over the same period in 2009.
