NACHSA e-Alert

Greetings NACHSA Members:
Next week will likely mark the end of the summer session for Congress. Both the House and Senate will recess and return September 8 for a few weeks before hitting the campaign trail.

NACHSA members who have Senators serving on the Senate Finance Committee will receive a separate e-Alert on Monday urging action on critical child welfare legislation that must be adopted before the break.

Items below include the preliminary schedule of the American Public Human Services Association's fall conference where NACHSA members will meet with their state and local colleagues; a request from California counties on whether TANF caseloads changed if/when states made changes to the assets limits for personal vehicles; and a job announcement from Catawba County, NC.

NACHSA to Meet at APHSA
Join your NACHSA colleagues and APHSA state and local members at the APHSA fall conference slated for September 14-16 at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. NACHSA will conduct its own meeting on Sunday morning, September 14 as well. Click here to view the preliminary agenda.

The Hyatt Hotel registration deadline is August 8 and the conference registration deadline is August 21.

Vehicle Asset Limits Under TANF
California's human services directors are seeking any information from NACHSA-member states where the state changed its TANF rules to allow someone to have a car, where before they could not, or, if the rule was changed to increase significantly a vehicle's asset limit. TANF caseload  data on the effect of those changes would be particularly helpful. If you have information to share, please contact Cathy Senderling-McDonald at the County Welfare Directors Association of California at csend@cwda.org.
