NACHSA e-Alert

Greetings NACHSA Members:

Kinship Caregiver Support Act Rally Planned in Washington, DC

The National Association of County Human Services Administrators has been asked to participate in a 50 state fly-in day on April 10, 2008 to promote the Kinship Caregiver Support Act, S. 661/H.R. 2188.  The Pew Charitable Trusts has generously offered to underwrite air fare and hotel expenses for up to three professionals and/or family members from each state and is particularly interested in the involvement of county human services officials.

Fly-in participants must be prepared to speak about the importance of subsidized guardianship to creating permanent families for children in foster care and ask their Congressional representatives to co-sponsor the legislation.  By building additional support for the Kinship Caregiver Support Act, we will demonstrate to Congressional leaders that this bill has strong bipartisan support and should be passed this year.  Pew will be organizing visits to congressional offices and will prepare briefing materials for participants to use on the Hill.

If you are interested in being considered, please contact Noukla as soon as possible by e-mail at nn@wafed.com. Please provide your name, position, county and phone number where you may be reached. Given the tight timeframe, please respond no later than March 28.

All air fare and hotel expenses will be reimbursed by the Pew Charitable Trusts. Participants must arrive Washington, D.C. by 8:30 am on April 10 and be able to stay through 4:30 pm.  Once Pew identifies participants, more information about logistics and reimbursement will be shared.
