Success By 6 is an initiative created by United Way Worldwide to address kindergarten readiness for at-risk children.  Our United Way chose to develop a Pre-Kindergarten readiness component by way of a four-week summer course.

Thanks to Congressman Tim Ryan who secured funding from Congressional Earmarks from the Federal Department of Education and PNC Bank for their corporate support of the Success By 6 program. 

2010 Campaign Goal

As of today, $625,000 or 25% of our 2010 Campaign Goal has been raised.  Look for our thermometers in the community!
 
Our program was a great success, with an overall averaged 30% increase in academic skills.  Most importantly though was the opportunity to develop their school social skills and their confidence in handling school rules and routines.  I was so proud of their success.  I am very lucky to work in the kindergarten hallway and get to see my little group daily.  Their eyes light up when they see me, which naturally makes my day.  Thanks to the United Way for giving our  group the edge they needed to be more successful in Kindergarten!

The goals of the Success By 6 program were to 1) establish familiarity with the physical structure of the school building; 2) develop a relationship with the teacher; 3) learn to adhere to classroom structure; 4) develop appropriate social skills; and 5) overcome any readiness deficiencies identified through the screening process. 

The following school districts participated in Success By 6 this past summer: Austintown Local Schools, Campbell City Schools, Canfield Local Schools, Girard City Schools, Hubbard E.V. School District, Jackson Milton Local Schools, Liberty Local Schools, Lowellville Schools, Sebring Local School District, South Range Local Schools, Springfield Local Schools, Struthers City Schools, West Branch Local School District, and Youngstown City Schools.  For more information on Success By 6, please call 330.746.8494.
