Dear Members and Friends,

I want to thank you for your support by electing me President of the GBCA for 2012. I promise to work hard and dedicate myself to making you proud of your decision every day.

Your new suite of officers have already began what I believe will be a real transformation from the past. new ideas, an abundance of energy and a real passion for the GBCA, are what I felt, from just one meeting with these extraordinary people. Open honest communication, the sharing of ideas and looking ahead to the professional growth of the GBCA will be the forefront of our year. Each officer brings with them their own experience and uniqueness to their position. Together we will support each other, work as a team and make decisions that benefit our organization as a whole. Something I have always said is "the GBCA belongs to its members" and I believe that, with my whole heart.

Welcome to the GBCA 2012, we look forward to working with you all,

Message From

Randi Lathrop
Deputy Director of Community Planning
Boston Redevelopment Authority - City Hall

Many people have contacted City Hall and noticed many more homeless individuals in the Downtown area and the Theater District. This generally happens since these areas are densely populated with office workers, shoppers, tourists and residents. It is also winter season and the weather has been seasonally warm.

City Hall is working with the City's Homeless Shelter Commission, Boston Police Area A, along with other City agencies on this issue. We are also working closely with the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District. You can always call for assistance to the 24 hour Mayor's Hotline at 617-635-4500 or the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District dispatcher line at: 617-261-0066 or help@bostonbid.org

Just a few friendly reminders:

  • If you see a homeless person that  needs medical attention, call 911

  • PLEASE do not give $$$ to the homeless when you see them panhandling. Homeless advocates have given us this advice. There are many resources for the homeless throughout the City for food and shelter.

  • If you see a homeless person needing shelter or assistance, you can call the Boston Shelter Commission for the City Of Boston: 617-635-4507 and they will assist the homeless to many organizations in the City.

  • If you see a blanket or cardboard that has been left on the public way, please dispose of them quickly or you can place them in public trash barrels on the sidewalk.

  • Make sure all your trash from your building that is placed on the sidewalk for pick up is securely tied.  All cardboard needs to be taped together or tied tightly together in a bundle. PLEASE do not place cardboard untied on the sidewalk. We encourage the public, building owners, and retailers to use clear trash bags for their trash disposal. (This will help with folks not tearing through your trash bags looking for bottles and cans.)

Thank You
