Hi All,
This month has been an extraordinary one chock full of events... and it isn't over yet!
Our all-member meeting at Patriot Place was nothing less than incredible! We were treated to an amazing array of venues from the Hall of fame, to the CBS Scene, more food & beverages from the wide variety of restaurants than anyone needs in a twenty four hour period (let alone in four hours!) a group photo on the Gillette Stadium field and an introduction by none other than Jonathan Kraft! If that wasn't enough, LTI not only provided transportation (including complimentary Patriot's caps and mimosas made by our congenial host Mark Irwin), Michael Southwick donated a portable microphone and speaker system for our use! I hope you are all feeling as incredibly lucky as I am to have been treated so magnanimously by all of those have gone above and beyond to provide the GBCA with such fantastic venues and opportunities in this economic downturn.
A phenomenal trip to my old home town of Plymouth (also known as America's Hometown) was educational and interesting, and still to come are offers to Provincetown on the 22nd and Harvard Square on the 23rd.
Of course the Silver Plume event was one of the highlights of our calendar year so congratulations to Joe Fallon, the winner for 2009! Also congratulations to Adam Castiglioni and Ronnie Lamming for making it to the finals.
Let's hope that the weather warms up to match the "hot" events that are still to come and I'll be looking forward to seeing you all at the next all-member meeting at the soon to open Marine Mammal Exhibit at the New England Aquarium on Monday, July the 6th.
Warmest regards, Ellen

June 8th GBCA Members Meeting at Patriot Place Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the newsletter to see our photo on the field!! |
We have to begin this section with a tremendous THANK YOU to our Affiliate member LTI International and Michael Southwick and Mark Irwin for providing a luxurious coach bus to transport GBCA members to the meeting.
Upon arrival in Foxboro we were greeted by April Worden, Marketing Manager for Patriot Place, and some of her team. Many of you will remember April from when she was Customer Service Manager for the Shops at the Prudential Center and also Affiliate Rep to the Board for 2 years. April is expecting a baby in the Fall and we wish her and her husband the best of health and happiness. Also on hand to greet us was Brian Earley, General Manager of Patriot Place. They provided breakfast as we gathered in the Patriots Hall of Fame. www.patriot-place.com
We took seats in the Theater by Raytheon in the Hall of Fame and Mr. Earley spoke of the vision of Patriot Place and in troduced Mr. Jonathan Kraft, President of the Kraft Group. Mr. Kraft spoke of the development of the $20 million Hall of Fame with great pride to honor the history of the Patriots franchise. It is designed to be both entertaining and educational. The Patriots Hall of Fame was recently given the Gold Award as best new museum by a national museum association and is considered a model for others. We each received 2 tickets for a complimentary admission to the Hall.
The inside scoop is that Tom is in great shape and ready to lead a great team to another Super Bowl Championship in 2010!
Mark Irwin, Marketing Manager for LTI gave thanks to the loyal customers who support LTI and is very pleased to be part of the GBCA. Michael Southwick, founder of LTI, has generously donated to the GBCA a portable microphone and speaker system so Ellen won't have to strain her voice to be heard at meetings.
Courtney Hadden recently returned from maternity leave (brimming with joy over son, Finn, 3 months old) and informed us that the Boston Ballet will make its full-time home now in the Opera House for all performances. Concierges will now also have access to tickets for guests directly from the Ballet box office even on weekends. The new season will open in Sept. and Courtney will again generously make complimentary tickets available to concierges for some performances. www.bostonballet.com
Tricia DeWolfe of Ace Tickets addressed us concerning their services and how they offer free delivery of tickets to hotels. They are the official source for Red Sox tickets. Tricia kindly distributed small bags of treats with complimentary tickets to the Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party and an admission to the exhibition hall at the Museum of Science.
Ellen Silverman then singled out Joseph Tyler of the Omni Parker House as the author of the "Pride in Service" slogan that will adorn all our official documents. The wording acknowledges the great debt the GBCA owes to the memory of Jonathan Pride who did so much for us in the years he served as Vice President for Public Relations.
Adam, current VP of PR, then updated us on the GBCA team in the AIDS Walk the previous day. The team received $255 in sponsors and members at the meeting added another $120. The GBCA will also add another contribution from our general funds.
Brian Earley and April Worden then hosted a drawing: Lor Palmer (Marriott Copley) won a set of 4 tickets to a Revolution home game and Stephan Schrepel (Hyatt Boston Financial District) won 2 tickets to a Patriots game. Jim Yacobucci (Clarion Nantasket Beach) won a night's stay at the new Renaissance Hotel attached to Patriot Place, including spa treatment.
We then began a whirlwind tour of the fabulous Patriot Place. CBS Scene is a dining and entertainment experience like no other, with great food and bar and 137 HD screens where you can watch a game or classic CBS programming from the past 75 years. The chef of Tastings Wine Bar and Bistro in April of this year was invited to the James Beard House in NYC. They feature creative cuisine from only local producers and the menu is designed around small plates (but larger than tapas). The wine list and weekly tastings have received national recognition. Skipjacks, though well-known to us in Boston, offers a unique atmosphere here with an award winning wine list and spectacular food. We feasted on sushi and calamari here. There are private dining facilities that offer the latest in A/V and communications for meetings. Showcase Live is a 16,000 sq. foot live entertainment venue hosting top artists from a variety of genres. Cindy Thorp, director of events, gave us a tour and a packet of info including two tickets each to a variety of upcoming shows. This space is also available for special rentals. Showcase Cinema DeLux offers a number of screens for movie viewing in a very upscale atmosphere; some of the theatres even have VIP seating areas with dining and bar service right at your luxurious seat for a modest fee over the ticket price. Next to be visited was Davio's, then it was on to Green Tangerine Aveeda Salon and Tavolino Pizza Gourmet. We moved on to see the brand new Renaissance Hotel and tour the extraordinary spa facilities opening soon. Finally, we went to the Bass Pro Shop, a "Disney World" for outdoor activity of all kinds and every kind equipment and clothing you can imagine for enjoying it. You can spend hours lost in the 142,000 sq. feet of displays, or cozy up to one of the comfortable sitting areas by a fireplace and gaze out the windows at the nature preserve which the Kraft Group and Patriots organization has made a hallmark of this remarkable place. There is a beautiful walking path through the preserve and soon Ocean Spray will open it's touring route of a working cranberry bog in the preserve.
Many thanks to April Worden and all at Patriot Place for putting together this wonderful experience. Members who were not able to attend the meeting should explore the facilities at the interactive website, www.patriot-place.com. It truly is NOT just another mall. Many of the restaurants and entertainment venues can host groups and private events for our guests and residents. Our thanks also to all the shops in Patriot Place who overwhelmed us with hospitality, with food and drinks, gifts and gift certificates and invitations, and made our day spent at Patriot Place well worth while.
