Help keep Inspired Teaching strong!
Greetings!

The heat and humidity are going up and the last weeks of school are winding down. For many, summer vacation is just days away.

But not at Inspired Teaching.

In just over a week, the 2008-09 corps of Inspired Teachers will begin a yearlong journey through our 13th Inspired Teaching Institute. Before the Institute begins, however, there is much celebrating to do at each of our comprehensive partner schools where the teachers and our staff have put together events recognizing the accomplishments of the year. This week we also hosted the first annual Inspired Teachers' Symposium. Stay tuned for a special end-of-year edition of the Monthly Inspirer that includes highlights from these events.

We look forward to sharing news of the teaching transformations that are sure to take place in the weeks ahead, and wish you a wonderful start to a summer of long sunny days.
OUR RESEARCH SHOWS...
Inspired Teaching Fosters Teachers' Sense of Personal Accountability

locus of control graphSelf-efficacy is a deep and abiding 'can-do' attitude. In educational research, teacher self-efficacy is considered an important construct because it consistently predicts so many of the elements of accomplished teaching.

Teachers who believe in their own efficacy have high expectations for students, even students with lower ability; they display the willingness to take risks and try new teaching ideas; and they're more likely to manage their classrooms in ways that promote student autonomy and learning. These teachers view student failure as an incentive to try harder or work smarter, rather than as proof that the causes of less-than-perfect outcomes are beyond their control.

Research Inspired Teaching conducted this school year demonstrates that our approach to working with teachers enhances participants' self-efficacy. Click here to learn more.

First Principal Institute Comes to a Close
: Our first annual Inspired Principal Institute held its final meeting last month. Participants had great things to say about the experience such as: "I have been both educated and energized by the topics we cover and the discussions with colleagues. The Inspired Principal Institute has given me a refreshed outlook, one that is supportive... and focused on students both academically and socially."
