Greetings!
Happy Holidays to you and yours! Inspired Teaching wishes you the very best the season has to offer and a wonderful start to the New Year.
We have enjoyed a busy fall filled with lesson studies at our partner schools and the continuation and conclusion of courses in Self-Discipline and Differentiated Instruction.
In January we'll begin seminars at several schools we've never worked with before and we look forward to seeing all of our Inspired Teaching Institute teachers as the practicum sessions start up again.
It is with great anticipation that we are also preparing for Chocolate Inspiration! on February 7, 2008. Our annual fundraising event promises to tempt your palate and nourish your mind. You can now visit our website to learn more! |
IN OUR OPINION...

Should school be like a winter wonderland?
What is it about this season that makes us reminisce about the magic of childhood? Perhaps it's the promise of snow and the hope for a snow-day. Perhaps it's the preponderance of twinkling lights and brightly decorated store fronts. Whatever it is, we're somehow better equipped at this time of the year to remember the wonders of being a kid.
The most precious memories from childhood come from times when we were captivated by the magic of the world, the love of our friends and family, and realization of our own potential. We remember these moments with all our senses: the smell of cookies baking, the feel of cold snow beneath you on a sled, the sound of people singing, the taste of hot chocolate, the sight of an icicle hanging from the front porch...
Memories like these also come from experiences in school, but perhaps not as much as they should. Part of this is because the typical school day tends to be a very visual and auditory experience, it doesn't capture all of our senses. School also doesn't often allow children the freedom to revel in their own imaginations. But think about what would happen if it did. What might school look like if walking down the halls were more like "walking in a winter wonderland?"

Is improving schools in your New Year's resolution?
Diets, exercise regimes, professional goals, lifestyle changes - these are the usual territory of New Year's resolutions. But what if you added a resolution or two that could help to change the schools in your community? Here are a few suggestions:
- Resolve to be informed. Make an effort every day to learn about what's happening locally and nationally regarding education so you can play an educated role in conversations about change.
- Resolve to be active. Participate in a local PTA, community advisory panel, or volunteer opportunity at your school. Becoming a part of the school community will give you first-hand insight into what the school needs to improve.
- Resolve to share resources. Invite your peers to sign up for this newsletter, share interesting articles you read, post course offerings and other learning opportunities on the information boards at your school.
- Resolve to speak up. When you see something happening in your school that you disagree with, seek advice on how to address the problem, but don't keep quiet! Your input could lead to positive action.
