Greetings!
It's been a busy month at Center for Inspired Teaching. From training 315 educators at the Convention Center to celebrating our second annual Alumni Conference we've worked with almost 700 teachers in August alone!
As the school year begins we're at 2 new intensive partner schools: Clark Elementary in NW and Moten Elementary in SE. We are happy to be reunited with old friends at Tyler Elementary - now in its 4th year of partnership and Orr Elementary which is entering its 3rd.
The Inspired Teaching Institute summer sessions were our largest ever and we look forward to spending this year with our new group of Inspired Teachers.
There's more good news to share below. Keep visiting our website for updates on the many exciting happenings at Center for Inspired Teaching!

IN OUR OPINION...

Going Back to School Should be Exciting You've seen the ads on TV: kids dragging their feet as they're dropped off on the first day, new school clothes attacking frightened children, sad farewells to summer juxtaposed with grim depictions of the academic drudgery that lies ahead... It doesn't have to be this way.
Going back to school should be exciting. LEARN MORE: Read our blog.

CONVERSATION CHANGERS

Think About a Favorite Teacher At this year's Inspired Teaching Alumni Conference we invited speakers from a variety of professions to share stories about teachers who inspired them. Their responses were passionate and frequently emotional. Although all the stories were different they shared a common theme: a special teacher can make a powerful difference in the life of a student.
The heroes of the speakers' stories showed the characteristics of an Inspired Teacher. Wouldn't it be great if all of our teachers were like that? The next time you're talking with someone about education, reflect on the teachers who inspired you. Then, introduce him or her to Inspired Teaching - the organization that's working to help more teachers become "favorites."
LISTEN to podcasts from two of our speakers who share their reflections on favorite teachers: Jim Asendio - News Director at WAMU 88.5, and Robert Egger - Founder and President of DC Central Kitchen.

2007 Alumni Conference a Success! According to our Inspired Teachers, the August 20th Alumni Conference was a perfect way to get enthused for the school year ahead. Among our honored guests was DCPS Chancellor Michelle Rhee who spoke to our teachers during the opening session. You can view the full agenda on our website and learn more about all of our speakers.
We've posted a condensed version of the 2007 Alumni Resource Guide (created by Inspired Teachers and staff at the conference) on our website. Highlights include a list of strategies teachers can use to empower their students and details on how to increase parental involvement through a "community walk." A full version of the guide is available to alumni of the Inspired Teaching Institute on the "Inspired Teaching Alumni" section of our site. Contact Jenna at 202.462.1956 if you are unable to login.
