News from Sacred Acupuncture

Dear patients, students, colleagues and friends, I have two upcoming seminars on the Shen that I am really excited to be teaching.

As an acupuncturist I have come to understand that any given dis-ease or disorder can have 'roots' in any of the four bodies. It can be rooted in the physical, Qi, Shen and Ancestor 'bodies'. Each level represents a place where the practitioner can potentially get leverage to shift the patient back towards balance.

Each of the organs and the channels is associated with specific mental and emotional, afflictive and redemptive themes. If we can recognize these themes as we listen to our patients' stories, then our words, our 'being-present-ness' with the underlying Shen issues, and our intentional interaction and dialogue with the patient, all of these can act on the Shen, even as our hands and needles act on the physical and Qi bodies.

Zang Fu and Channel Consciousness

Acupuncture masters often assert that one of the keys to effective acupuncture treatment is to determine which organ or channel is carrying the difficulty. This is also true at the level of the Shen. We will explore the mental and emotional components of the Zang Fu organs and the channels as expressed in the following systems:

  • Crop Circle The Ancient 12 Branches as positions of Jupiter
  • The 12 animals as a model for Zang Fu organ energetics
  •  The 12 hour clock cycle
  •  The geometry and mathematics of 12 fold systems
  •  The anatomy and physiology of the physical organ components of the Zang Fu system and their Shen equivalents
  • Insights from the Nei Jing into the 'personality' of the organs
  • Ideas and insights into organ and channel consciousness derived from Shantam Dhiraj
  •  The medieval mystical teachings of the stations of the cross and the 12 branches of the Cross
  • Insights into the Shen of the organs from various Qigong traditions

Registering for a Seminar

These seminars are designed to take us deep into the energetics and components pf the Shen. In addition to lecture we will have demonstrations, clinical practicums, partner practice, guided meditation and enacting techniques to generate contact with components of the Shen.

I have found that a multi-sensorial and levels-of-consciousness approach is the best method of teaching the depth of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. I have noticed that learning Chinese medicine is a spiral process; you may pass by the same material many times, at each pass integrating more.

Audio mp3's of the lectures and notes will be available to participants.

These two seminars can be taken together or separately
