The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) protects, promotes, and supports breastfeeding worldwide. WABA World Breastfeeding Week 2008 calls for greater support for mothers in achieving the gold standard of infant feeding: breastfeeding exclusively for six months, and providing appropriate complementary foods with continued breastfeeding for up to two years or beyond. This month I am proud to introduce a new internship opportunity for those looking to gain experience in community-based lactation work. Happy Bambino is now accepting applications for the Happy Bambino Internship in Lactation Consultation.

This internship is appropriate for Certified Lactation Counselors, Birth educators, Birth & Postpartum Doulas, and other professionals wishing to gain experience with lactation counseling in a community-based setting and working with moms and babies in the critical period of lactation initiatation (2 days to 10 days post birth).

Adria Cannon is a board certified lactation consultant. She leads the Nursing Mamas Resource Station every Tuesday and Friday at Happy Bambino

...Rebecca & Dr. Alex Kendziorski

Founders of African Youth Outreach. "We can't save the world, but hopefully we can empower these children to make the right choices," says Rebecca Kendziorski. Rebecca and her husband Alex work with African youth to help the children deal with their grief, build their confidence and dispel myths about HIV and AIDS. Alex and Rebecca still find time to give so much (even since welcoming their baby boy ten months ago).

If you missed the AYO House Party on August 1st - don't worry- you haven't missed it all! The AYO photo exhibit will be up all month in our Resource Center classroom!
