|
Father's Day is June 15 |
|
It can't be about bellies and breastfeeding all the time. June's newsletter honors the dads in our lives. We're bringing you some dad-to-dad advice, baby gear specs, daddy discounts and a preview of our fabulous Father's Day Event. Our stealthy papa-razzi even captured a few papas in their natural environment! We at Happy Bambino would like to give a big round of applause to ALL the men that are a presence in a child's life...dads, grandpas, brothers, uncles, friends and dad's-to-be. Please forward this newsletter on to them!

Phil and Ted's Most Excellent Father's Day Adventure

He's bringing the Classic, Sport, and Vibe strollers plus all the latest, greatest Phil and Ted's accessories. Integrated, high-tech and light-weight are just a few words that describe these sleek machines. We've planned exclusive product demos at both 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. plus plenty of time for you to test drive the merchandise on the bike path behind the store. It will be totally bodacious!
Who needs a handheld GPS when you've got the Happy Bambino Stroller map? Our friends at the City gave us a little direction in creating a map to some of the finest stroller paths this side of the Capitol. Debuting Saturday, June 14th. Be the first daddy on your block to get one.

A gentle breeze is blowing, the sun is shining and a few puffy clouds float by in a blue summer sky. Where is your favorite place to take the family for some fun in the sun? Send your responses to news@happybambino.com.
You could win $10 store credit. The winner is drawn at random from responses received. Our May winner answered the question, "When you stroll, where do you go?" "Cap City Trail. We love using the stroller on the bike path, so smooth! And Happy Bambino is so close to the trail!!" Congratulations, Stephanie and family! |

We caught up with Joel Johnson, At-Home Dad's Group facilitator and daddy blogger. We asked Joel to share some "fatherly" advice:
According to Joel, "There are three general rules: (1)When you are tired and can afford to take a nap, take one. (2) Despite the size of your man bag, try and be prepared when out on excursions. (3) Have fun."
Very concise. Thanks Joel! And Happy Father's Day!

Mother's Day Climate Change Chalk-a-Thon
Kids (and adults!) put chalk to sidewalk to express their love for Mama Earth and to let our legislators know they make a difference in the environment. A bird's eye photo was taken of each child and their drawing and is being incorporated into a permanent work of art. Happy Bambino and the Hot Party will present the installation to Senators Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl in an event later this year. Watch this space for more information! |

Ask Adria |
|
Gems of wisdom & tidbits of advice from a seasoned Lactation Consultant. |
|
Dear Adria,
"My wife isn't sure she wants to breastfeed, but I think it's the best choice for our baby. What can I do?"
As the father and partner, studies show that you're one of the two most important people influencing your wife's breastfeeding success (the other one is your mother-in-law). Your positive attitude and encouragement make a big difference. Of course, whether or not your wife breastfeeds is ultimately her decision. As her partner you can encourage her, take breastfeeding classes with her, read books together, and hang out together with breastfeeding friends. (See my blog for book titles, more support ideas, on-line resource links, and a really cute picture!)
If your wife has fears (like of not having enough milk, pain, difficulty return to work, or being tied-down) you can help her look for solutions before your baby comes. Lots of women worry about these things and there are lots of ways to fix them. Check out on-line information sources or come with questions to the Nursing Mama's Resource Station. Most importantly, you can let your wife know that you'll be there to take care of her while she figures out breastfeeding.

| Chinese Superhero Mama
By now, you've likely seen this CNN video report of a Chinese policewoman, Jiang Xiaojuan, who was nursing as many as nine babies in the wake of the May 12 earthquake - including the children of three women who were left homeless by the quake (and too traumatized to produce milk) and five orphans. Jiang was quoted on All Things Considered, "My babies are babies, other people's babies are all momma's babies."

Did You Know? |

"According to a recent study from the University of Wisconsin, your calorie burn is 20% higher when you push a baby stroller at 3.5 miles per hour than when you walk solo."
