		| Hi there!,

First off, thanks to so many of you for your prayers and emails during these times of upheaval. Our home is safe from harm, but there are nearly 1500 families who have lost everything from what I hear. The generosity of response has been heartening to watch, as these crises tend to evoke the lovingkindness that's just waiting to spring to the surface in every one of us. It's been a chance to feel a bit of what it might be like to be in a war-zone (minus the bombs and man-made horrors)---that feeling of anxiety, where will it hit next? That sense of powerlessness, that sudden urge to appeal to a higher power, the awakening to our intimate relationship with this Mother Earth and her overarching authority. Since I usually start with a poem, I'll give you one of mine today, a sonnet of poetic order to contrast with the disorder and chaos that is all about... Sonnet for the Return of Light If ever in the throes of troubled thought I notice not the loveliness of night nor find within its darkness what I ought: that flame that's only glimpsed at second sight. If words of mine contain no joy nor faith, If mystery and wonder take their leave, Then come and lay me down on Heaven's lathe. Remove my blinders; these I will not grieve. Restore my sight, that deeper things I see, the light within the dark, beneath the veil, let fears and shadows not bewilder me, when lo! I come upon the Holy Grail. For You are all I ever seek to find Shine through this dark, O Light, my Love Sublime.Jan Phillips  | |

Seeing Our Way Clear Photography Workshop

Photography is an act of looking that can lead to flashes of surprising insight and open doors to a deeper knowing. This workshop, incorporating photographs and videos, poetry and music, makes a compelling case for the claim "a picture is worth a thousand words." It illustrates the power of images to alter our inner space, heal our brokenness, change our consciousness and state of being. For the photographer and non-photographer alike, this experiential hands-on workshop opens doors into the inner chambers, exploring the landscape of our wisdom, our passions, and our visions. Through a variety of creative exercises, each participant is coached in the art of looking, seeing, and sharing one's insight in a way that adds light and beauty to the world around us.

Drawing on my fine command of language, I said nothing. OK, dear ones, this is the end. I have you in my heart and in my mind and in my prayers. Every morning I hold each of you like a flower in the palm of my mind. I appreciate that I have a circle because of you, that I need not feel alone because of you, that we are doing good work and bringing bright light to the world because we are in this together, loving as we can, working as we do, countering this terrible darkness of war and wrongdoing. Speak out everywhere against it. There was once a bumper sticker that read: There comes a time when silence is betrayal. This is that time.Robert Benchley This is a fabulous book written by a friend of mine who has been teaching for years at the International Women's Writing Guild Summer Conference and is one of their best. Hochhalter                      1227 Gardena Ave NE hochhalter.cara@gmail.com         Minneapolis, MN 55432    763-238-0735 Dear artists,     I am seeking visual artists with a vision for social justice.  As a seminary student at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, and a visual artist myself, I am currently working on a project entitled, "Church, Art and Justice."  I am focusing on how the arts can facilitate churches in efforts to hold up social justice issues.  I am also interested in how the "visual image" can be integrated within worship or exhibit space in the church to inspire responses to these issues.  How can artists help put a "human face" on situations that call out for response?  Can "justice-focused" art present both the prophetic "no" as well as glimpses of hope and possibility in which congregations can be engaged? (EMAIL CARA AT ABOVE ADDRESS TO SEE HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED) *********************************************************************Neither a lofty degree in intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of a genius.
