The Camp Reunion Was A Blast!

Reunion Kids

It was so great to see over 200 Pinemerites at the annual Camp Reunion last month!  We rolled on the bowling lanes, looked at photos from the summer, hugged our camp friends and started to get excited about being back at camp in 2009!

We have put together a new slideshow of photos from the event.  Whether you were there or not, please enjoy "seeing" some of your camp friends!  Click here to be taken to the slideshow.
Register for Summer 2009!

calendarIs someone else in your family thinking about going to Pinemere this summer?  Pinemere's "New Camper Incentive Program" is a limited donor-funded gift/credit of $500 for any first-time camper entering grades 1st-3rd who attends the 7, 4 or 3 week session.  These incentives are only available for a limited time, so don't miss your opportunity to save.

Did you know that our next registration deadline for returning campers is on January 31st?  We encourage anyone who is planning to attend camp in 2009 to register by this date.  Applications received after January 31st will incur additional late charges.

Pinemere People Making Headlines...Do you have something to share?

MagermanDaniel Magerman (CIT) and his family were recently featured in the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent article about "A Scaled-Down Chanukah".  Click here to read the full article.

Jen Ruckenstein (CIT) was recently selected to be a part of the Tichon Ramah Yerushalayim (TRY) program.  She will be spending the rest of the school year in Israel, we wish her a wonderful trip!

Dori Fleekop (Row) and Gili Fleekop (Village) celebrated their B'nai Mitzvah in December, and they wrote a lovely article for the Temple Sinai bulletin, which we wanted to share with everyone.

Shalom! My name is Gili Fleekop. First of all, I would like to say that I am thrilled to be sharing my B'nai mitzvah with my brother Dori. He puts a smile on my face, and I thank you Dori for being such a great friend, brother and mentor. I would like to share a story that touched my heart and that influenced Dori and I to pick our B'nai mitzvah project. There is a girl who lives in Sderot. She has a family of five brothers and sisters, including one baby sister. There is a place in her house that is protected from the rockets, but it is too loud in that room for her baby sister to sleep. So every night her baby sister sleeps upstairs. Her mother would not have enough time to go and get the baby and come back downstairs, so her mom sleeps in the baby's room. When the rocket alarm goes off her mom lies over the baby as a shield. The girl lays awake and is terrified that her mom and sister might not survive. Even though Dori and I can't help this situation we wanted to try to make it better. So we have been collecting stuffed animals to provide comfort and love for these innocent children. The kids in Sderot absolutely do not deserve what they
are going through. Dori really helped me to understand the concept that it doesn't matter what religion, color or gender you are, it is important do a mitzvah. We have been doing mitzvahs our whole entire life. Since we were born we were raised to know that the thing that we call life is not all unicorns and marshmallows. You must know that there are people out there who need your help. Lastly thank you Emma and Abba. You are the best role models I could ask for. I appreciate every second that I am with my family; you only get one life to live so live it well.

My name is Dori Fleekop. Even though I would rather be outside right now playing some sport my sister made me type this biography. So here I am sitting wondering what I should write about. So I thought why not our B'nai mitzvah project. We have been collecting stuffed animals for Sderot. You probably never heard of Sderot. It is a city in the south district of Israel about a mile away from Gaza. They have been under attack since 2001. When I heard about this my jaw dropped. We decided to collect stuffed animals for the kids in Sderot to hug when they are scared. What amazed me the most is that patients from my father's office really kicked in and helped us collect. But what really fascinated me was that people from different religions came together as a community to help out people in need. That proves that it doesn't matter what religion you believe in as long as you make a difference and help out. I would like to thank my sister Gili for always being there for me. I love her so much and I don't know what I would do without her. Lastly Abba and Emma, I would like to thank you for providing me with just the right amount of encouragement, love and hope.

Have you recently celebrated your Bar/Bat Mitzvah?  Have you made the honor roll at school?  Did your soccer team just win a big tournament?
If you have an achievement you would like to share with your Pinemere family, please send an email to Pam@Pinemere.com.  Maybe next month you'll be reading about yourself in the E-Pinemerit!

Camp CampCamp Camp at the Allentown JCC

Pinemere Camp is co-sponsoring a "Festival of Jewish Books and Authors" event at the Allentown JCC on Sunday, January 4th at 9:45AM.

Almost every adult American's life was shaped by a very surreal, awe-inspiring annual ritual known as summer camp.  The author, Roger Bennett has combed through 80,000 photos over three years to
produce this cultural and social history of a generation who came of age in the 1980's and early 90s in CAMP CAMP. This book is a collection of photos and essays that celebrates summer camp in all of its kitschy, distinctly American glory and
allows readers to relive one of the most bizarre, yet life-changing epochs of their lives.  Please join us in a fun-filled morning of camp memories!
The event is $6, but you can get in for $5 if you wear a camp t-shirt!
