Resistance Makes You Stronger!
Black Belt Champions and Hi-Achievers would never become great without the benefit of resistance. None of the greatest Masters or Senseis in the Martial Arts would become as powerful as they have without the benefit of resistance.
Motivational Speaker and Best Selling Author, Zig Ziglar, teaches we should always be grateful for our problems.
The reality is, the challenges we face everyday, really do make us stronger. If everything in life came easy, everyone would be an instant Black Belt.
In the real world, the people that solve the most complex problems, are worth the most value in society. In the Martial Arts, in school, at work, in business, we usually learn the most from the setbacks and challenges that we overcome.
The athlete that takes the easy route, partying all night and skipping practices, is not likely to be stepping onto the winner's podium. It's the Champion that puts in hours of disciplined practice that wins Gold Medals.
Pressure Creates Diamonds...
We all need resistance to become stronger. When it comes to physical strength and conditioning, we need to do push ups, pull ups, lift weights or train with some form of resistance to become stronger and stronger everyday.
Lack of resistance can actually lead to becoming weaker and losing our competitive edge. We all need resistance to become stronger.

How to make stress make you feel stronger
Stress is a common problem, due to the difficult situation the world is in right now.
Stress can have two consequences:
1. Positive (excitement, growth stimulation and progress)
2. Negative (fear, exhaustion, overwhelm and sickness)
Positive stress management
Leads to excitement, growth stimulation and progress.
Negative stress management
Leads to fear, exhaustion, overwhelm and sickness.
You want one, and you don't want the other:
Stress comes in four types:
1. Physical stress
2. Environmental stress
3. Intellectual stress
4. Emotional stress
In order to make stress be a positive factor (in which case, stress is termed "Eustress"; the prefix eu- derives from the Greek word meaning either "well" or "good") we must manage the equivalent four corresponding elements:
1. Physical body responses
2. Environmental surroundings
3. Intellectual work pressures
4. Emotional responses

Strategies for Managing Your Child's Resistant Behavior
By John W. Maag, Ph.D.
Sally: Mom, can I go out and play after dinner?
Mom: Not tonight, dear.
Sally (whining): But whyyyyy?
Mom: I don't want you to be too tired for school tomorrow, and, besides, you were out the last three nights in a row.
Sally (forcefully): That's a stupid reason! Kathy, Ryan, and Monica all get to go out more than three nights in a row. You like those kids, and their parents even go to our church. So, why not?
Mom (exasperated): Because I said so!
Sally (glaring): No! I'm not staying in, and you can't make me!
What's Behind the Resistance?
What parent can't relate to the extremely frustrating situation described above? As a parent, you expect your child to do what you ask, in a respectful manner. Why does your child challenge your authority? There is no mystery as to why children say "No" to parents' directions. This non-compliant behavior allows them to:
- gain attention
- avoid a task they don't want to do
- gain power by trying to irritate us
All too often, parents focus solely on the form, or outward appearance, of a child's behavior and don't stop to think about what purpose it's serving for the child. For example, a child may come home from school angry after being falsely accused of talking during class. She may have felt helpless in trying to convince the teacher of her innocence. So, upon walking into the house she may purposely knock a book off a shelf. When her dad politely asks her to pick up the book she replies, "No, I won't pick up the book! You can't make me pick up the book! No one can make me pick up the book!"
The form of the behavior - knocking a book off the shelf - is the least important aspect for the parent to address. The child could have just as easily thrown her backpack across the room, refused to do after-school chores, or yelled at her dad. So, what purpose does her behavior serve? Knocking the book to the floor is a way for the girl to feel empowered after feeling so helpless at school.

TIPS TO KEEP YOUR RESOLVE
Year after year, much of the population makes the same New Year's resolutions as they did the year before, such as get in shape and eat better -- then falls off the resolution wagon before they even reach February. Is it even possible to keep New Year's health and fitness resolutions? In a word, yes! Forgo the lofty resolutions and focus on a daily plan to achieve milestones along the way, says Sammie Kennedy, CEO and creator of Booty Camp Fitness.
The Journal of Psychology reports that by January 7, 22 percent of New Year's resolvers have given up on their goal. By March, more than half of the individuals surveyed fell off of the resolution wagon.
"We often set lofty resolutions, which lead to us getting discouraged when we figure out how much work it will actually take," says Booty Camp Fitness founder Sammie Kennedy. A better strategy is to make sure your fitness resolution is something you can incorporate into your lifestyle. Make a commitment to take small steps every day that work toward a bigger goal, she says.
Create a daily goal to start
"I always encourage my clients to create a daily goal and build toward a four-week goal, an eight-week goal and then a longer-term goal, say, six months," she says. A slight change to your routine eventually leads to bigger changes and is more manageable and achievable.
An example of a daily goal would be to drink two liters of water, or to replace one meal with a large salad. Knowing why this is beneficial will also make this a doable step you can feel good about. Two liters of water daily will help flush toxins, carry nutrients and help the body stay hydrated. Replacing one meal with a large salad doesn't need to be a sacrifice; made with good ingredients and healthy fats, it can be incredibly satisfying.
Top 4 tips to stick to resolutions
Here are Kennedy's top four tips for sticking to a fitness resolution:
1. Create a clear vision
Make a dream board or vision board as a reminder of what you are working toward. This could be as simple as setting a motivating photograph as your telephone wallpaper so that you can be inspired each time you check your social media or calendar.
2. Schedule for success
Book your workouts into your calendar. Make a point of designating that time for you to exercise and reach your goal. You wouldn't cancel on a client, friend or boss, so keep your appointments with yourself, too.
3. Keep track
A great way to gain momentum and receive positive feedback is to track your success. If weight loss is your goal, measure key areas of your body, such as your waist, hips, butt and thighs. Re-measuring every four weeks or so can help to keep you moving forward and reinforce your progress. Don't worry too much about the scale, though, as your exercise program may reduce your body fat while helping you gain muscle tone; muscle weighs more than fat.
4. Find a support system
Having friends and family on board and aware of your goals will make a difference. The only key piece of advice here is to choose people who will be "on board" with your goal-setting and help remind you of your goals in a supportive and positive manner.
