    "Making a Difference"
    By Dan Wilson

Are you familiar with the starfish story? One day at the beach all the starfish had been washed up on the beach during high tide only to be left there in the sand to die as the tide went back out.
A young boy playing on the beach recognized the fate of the starfish and began to methodically pick them up one at a time and toss them back into the sea. A man who had been observing the boy approached him shaking his head.

"What's the point, boy, don't you see there are thousands of these starfish lying along the beach?
There's no way you're going to make a difference."
Undaunted, the boy replied to the man as he tossed another starfish into the ocean,
"Yeah, but it made a big difference to that one."

Too often, I'm afraid, we find ourselves overwhelmed by the challenges and problems that exist in our lives and the world around us, becoming paralyzed by the enormity of it all; We're like the man observing the boy on the beach tossing starfish back in the sea "What's the point?" we ask ourselves "Surely my little contribution won't make any difference." Oh, but it does! In fact, for some it might make ALL the difference. So........

"Don't fail to do something just because
    you can't do everything."

What do I do if I suspect that my child is being bullied?

    by Deer Park Bully Prevention

What are parents to do if their child tells them that he or she is being bullied?

First, listen; gauge the seriousness of the incident and whether there is a history of such bullying. Then find out what has been tried and work out options with your child - such as being more assertive, avoiding people and places, and seeking help through the school.
It is tempting to confront the bully's parents. Don't. It seldom pays and commonly makes matters works. When bullying occurs at school, work through your teacher and principal.

    Train for Gain -
    Always aim for improvement!

Martial Arts training is filled with endless values and benefits for people of all ages. From the mental aspects of greater confidence and concentration, to the physical benefits of improved flexibility, higher energy level, greater endurance, strength and muscle tone.

Not to mention stress relief and having a lot of fun. The Martial Arts is well known as one of the best things you could ever do for yourself and/or your loved ones.

Always aim for improvement in all of the above areas and more. In other words, strive to improve your confidence and concentration. Don't accept your initial benefits and be satisfied with just a little improvement.

Keep striving for more and you'll see continuous gains and improvements.

Always aim for improvements in your physical fitness, flexibility, strength and endurance. You can and will get better if you train for gain. Sometimes you'll see better gains than others and you may even suffer an occasional setback. That's OKAY. It's part of the process of self improvement.

Also known as the "Ratchet Effect."

Three steps forward, one step back...is still positive gain.

Always aim for improvements in your mental and emotional growth. Keep striving for greater knowledge, higher skill levels and your ability to stay focused on your objectives. So that you'll be able to continually reach the next set of goals you have for yourself.
