Israel Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates Primo Levi on his 90th Anniversary.

Between July 10 and July 15 the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will pay a tribute to Primo Levi (1919-1987) on the 90th anniversary of his birth. The orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta, will perform the song-cycle "If This is a Man" by Israeli composer Tzvi Avni featuring soprano Sharon Rostorf-Zamir and pianist Yefim Bronfman. Mr. Avni, a laureate of the Israel Prize of Music known for his fluency in both traditional and experimental music, is one of Israel's foremost composers. He began to work with Primo Levi's poetry in 1994. A version of the work for piano and voice will be performed on the opening night of the Annual Symposium on Primo Levi in collaboration with the Consulate General of Israel in New York (New York, October 25, 2009).
