Book Recommendations

a note from Don

A couple of months ago, I asked Georgia Small (a voracious reader) to read and review a couple of books for me.  In addition to writing a review for one of the books that I handed her, she also included a review of the book Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream, by David Platt.  This is significant because the ideas that Platt explores in his book dovetail with the sermons that I recently gave on Isaiah 6 and The Rich Young Man.  I hope you'll read Georgia's review of both this book and a short little book, that is more of a Bible study, entitled The Gospel Centered Life: Becoming the Person God Wants You to Be by Steve Timmis and Tim Chester; and I hope that you'll be encouraged to read the books and be strengthened in your faith.

The Walk to Emmaus is a 72-hour experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation. You will enjoy three busy days singing, learning, laughing, praying, worshiping, and participating in small groups. The weekend (Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon) is held at Broadmoor Methodist and you must be sponsored to attend. Some of the people who are available to sponsor Emmaus participants are Johnny Thorning, Frank and Lin Loughran, Don and Debbie Ipson, Bruce and Sue Cullen, Kean Day, Wendy Hebert, Anne Vicknair, and Jim Demand.

The next Men's Walk is September 22-25; the next Women's Walk is October 13-16.  Please contact Bill Liehe (einaej22@yahoo.com or 673-5484) for more info about the Emmaus weekend. Information is also available at www.lcwe.org.
