Spring Forward This Weekend

Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend. Don't forget to turn your clocks forward one hour before you go to sleep Saturday night.
Ash Wednesday Service and Dinner
Tonight! Wednesday, March 9

You are invited to attend an Ash Wednesday worship service tonight at 7 PM. We will serve lasagna and salad from 5:45-6:30 PM. Donations will be accepted for dinner. Please let us know to expect you by emailing Dana Sutton at dana@rivercommunity.org.

The aim of the Ash Wednesday worship service is threefold: to meditate on our mortality, sinfulness, and need of a savior; to renew our commitment to daily repentance in the Lenten season and in all of life; and to remember with confidence and gratitude that Christ has conquered death and sin.

Childcare will be provided for Infants - PreK during the worship service.
An Invitation to Prison Ministry

This past Sunday, Georgia Small spoke to the congregation about her involvement with the Kairos prison ministry and invited us to be a part of it. Be sure to read Georgia's talk if you missed it on Sunday so you too can be part of this powerful ministry to inmates at St. Gabriel and Angola.

River Open Golf Tournament
Friday, May 6 - save the date!

Sponsored by River Church South (Gonzales), River Community Church, and First Presbyterian Church (Baton Rouge)

This is a fellowship event for these three congregations and their friends. Golfers are encouraged to bring and pay for at least one, or as many as three, guests, who do not attend their church. It is possible to just register for yourself, but hopefully, most registrations will be for two, three or four players. The point is to invite friends to a fellowship event in a Christian setting. The tournament is followed by a barbeque dinner at the "Lakes" pavilion.

Pelican Point Country Club, The "Lakes" Course

Shotgun start at 1 PM (arrive by 12:30)

$70/golfer (Includes tournament cost and dinner)

Registration starts soon. Contact Mark Paxton for more info: mjpaxton55@gmail.com

Marketplace Vacation Bible School
July 25-29, 9-Noon

VBS week at River will be July 25-29 from 9-Noon each day. Please invite friends and neighbors to attend VBS with you. We're very excited to be doing the Marketplace VBS this year. Children and adults alike will enter into Jerusalem, 30 A.D. and experience a taste of what life may have been like in Jesus' day. Contact Mary Wusterbarth (wusterbunch@bellsouth.net) if you'd like to help with VBS.

Black and White Lenten Art Exhibit

The River Community Church Creativity Group is planning a special Lenten Art Exhibit for the church. Lent is a season of fasting, self denial, and penitence. The Lenten season art exhibit is symbolized by fasting from exuberant arts, the denial of color, and the more serious sense of sorrow for our sins. It will have only black and white original art works -- photos, paintings, drawings, 3-D art objects such as beading, pottery, carving, etc.. We hope that this will inspire many of you to create something special to display in this exhibit.

Take in for the exhibit will start Sunday, March 13 and end Wednesday, March 16. The exhibit will hang from then until Easter at which time we would like to hang a very colorful "God's Beautiful Creations" exhibit. All are welcome to bring original art for that exhibit any time before Easter Sunday, April 24.

Two entries max/per person, wire backed, ready to hang art works or 3-D. This exhibit is open to all ages. Contact Jeanie Liehe @ einaej22@yahoo.com or 673-5484 for more information.
