River Current February 2010
River Current
Current Happenings at River Community Church
Calling all Kids and Youth

Our next Family Worship Sunday is February 21st, and we want YOU to design the bulletin!  Create a drawing or picture of what worshiping God means to you, then drop it off in the designated envelope in the gathering area.  We'll select one drawing to be our bulletin cover for that day!

Ash Wednesday Service, Feb 17 at 7 PM

The aim of the Ash Wednesday worship service is threefold: to meditate on our mortality, sinfulness, and need of a savior; to renew our commitment to daily repentance in the Lenten season and in all of life; and to remember with confidence and gratitude that Christ has conquered death and sin.

Plan to join us for worship on Wednesday, February 17, as we begin the Lenten season. Childcare will be provided for Infants - PreK.
Family Worship Workshop
Saturday, Feb 20, 9 - Noon

An action-filled morning of teaching and fun activities to build up the whole family!  Come learn more about what worship is and how all ages can participate in it. Nursery is provided for infants and toddlers.  Email Jill (jill@rivercommunity.org) to register your family today!

Blood Drive at River, Feb 21

We all know it's important to give blood, but it's hard to remember to do it. In fact only one out of 20 people regularly give blood. Well, you have an opportunity to be that one in twenty in just a few weeks because the United Blood Service BloodMobile is coming to us. They will be at River from 8:30 AM - Noon on Sunday, February 21. Appointments are scheduled online. Thank you!
Habitat for Humanity Project, February 26 - March 13

We are teaming with First Presbyterian in Baton Rouge and Abounding Love Ministries to begin work on a Habitat for Humanity house. Contact Laura Ostermiller (laura_stephen@yahoo.com or 620-7668) to help with hospitalilty. Contact Debbie Schultz (dlbschultz@cox.net) for info on volunteering for the build.

Note to small groups: This is a great opportunity to do a service project together!

Alpha Starts Soon
Introductory Luncheon: Sunday, February 28 at 12:30 PM

People attend an Alpha Course for all sorts of reasons: to learn some basic facts about Christianity... to take a refresher course about the church of their childhood... to explore something totally unknown. Maybe it's your turn to check it out. Maybe it's time to invite that friend with all those questions about life and God and spirituality to attend with you.

Watch what Jon and Nicole had to say about their experience with Alpha.

Email Don Ipson (donipson@bellsouth.net) to register for the Intro lunch on Feb 28. The first meeting isn't a commitment. It's simply a chance to see if Alpha might be for you.
