This is My Song in the Desert...
A Reflection on our study of Ruth

Desert CarDuring our series on Ruth, as we saw how God provided for two marginalized widows through very ordinary means, we learned a new song called the "Desert Song."  This song touches on the themes of Ruth, of emptiness and blessing and the recognition that God works both through dry times and times of abundance.  No matter what the circumstance, He is there, and He will give us what we need (even if it's not exactly what we think we need at the time!).

As a reminder of what we've been hearing and learning as a church for the past month, and as a chance to offer up a short prayer

Small Group for Women with Addictions
New small group starts October 14

Debbie Ipson is starting a new small group for ladies with addictions. The group will begin on Oct. 14th and will run (initially) for 8 weeks on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8pm at Debbie's home in Woodlawn.  The group will be working through "Life's Healing Choices" by John Baker.  Interested parties should contact Debbie at [email protected] or (225) 405 4633.

Family Worship Sunday, October 18
Enjoy the privilege of worship as a family

[God] planted a witness in Jacob, set his Word firmly in Israel, then commanded our parents to teach it to their children so the next generation would know, and all the generations to come- know the truth and tell the stories so their children can trust in God.
Psalm 78:5-6

In her book, Parenting in the Pew, Robbie Castleman points out that worship is not something we inherently know how to do. Even adults have to learn how to worship. Just as children need training for reading, writing, and math, they need training in worship and that is best taught by parents.

We agree with Robbie and hope to provide parents with the opportunity to teach their children to worship by having periodic family worship Sundays. Please contact Jamie (268-6938 or [email protected]) if you need ideas or resources to help you teach your children the wonder of our God and how to worship Him.

Women's Retreat: Skill for Living
October 23-24 at the Feliciana Retreat Center

Ladies, come deepen friendships, study the word, enjoy October weather with canoeing and hiking--you won't want to miss it! We'll be looking at the concept of wisdom in the bible and making applications to our often crazily busy lives.
Have you taken the Alpha Course?
Course begins this Sunday

In each of the 10 sessions of the Alpha course, people enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile...questions like-Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

Check it out this Sunday afternoon!
