Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

This is the end of our tenth season and I have to say that Dan and I love working on the orchard.  Thank you for supporting us and other local farmers.  This will be my last e-mail of 2009.  I don't plan on sending one out next Friday!  Merry Christmas to you and my sincere thanks for helping us end our tenth season well.  I am looking forward to 2010 and excited about what changes and additions we will make over the next several years.

Just a reminder that we are not closing for the season quite yet.  We will remain open every day until Christmas Eve Day.  We will close for some much needed rest and reopen Friday January 8th and then be open every Friday and Saturday in January from 9-5.  The stand will be closed Sundays through Thursdays in January.

I apologize for not adding a new recipe the past 2 newsletters.  I will do a better job in January.  But please enjoy the recipes posted on the web site from previous weeks.  There are some really delicious recipes there!
In the Stand...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Delicious pies are available for Christmas.  Call the stand (432-2544) to order some.  We'll be open until noon Christmas Eve Day for pick up.
You can still ship apples, but call us right away to get them there in time.  You can also order fruit baskets to pick up and take with you as you visit friends and relatives.  They make nice teacher presents too.
Decorative wooden ladders, in a number of different sizes, are available.  If "country" is your style, you'll want to come in and see these ladders.  Lean it against a wall and hang quilts or wreaths on the rungs, hang it from your ceiling in your kitchen and hang dried flowers and herbs on it, or put it outside with a big Santa for a Christmas Decoration.
The bees wax candles keep selling quickly but Dan's parents are always making more to keep a supply available!  We have regular tapers, cute bee hive candles, and also wax nativity scenes.  Stop by and take a look.  If you don't see one of these items let us know, you can order them and we'll make sure you get what you want.
Don't forget to get your cider donuts on the weekends!  If you don't eat all of them, put them in a ziploc bag and they will be soft the whole week.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We sold some this past week, but I would really like to sell a lot more.  I am selling them for less than I paid for them.  It is Hershey's ice cream and it comes in large 3 gallon containers.  I paid just over $25 a tub and I'm selling them for $20 a tub.

The flavors we have (as I write this - may not stay this way since I only have 1 or 2 of each) are vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, peanut butter twist, mint chocolate chip, raspberry (fantastic!), moose tracks, no sugar added butter pecan, cotton candy, and  peach.

I will end up eating all of it and looking much larger next year if I can't sell it.  :)

So please help me and tell your friends.  It's a great deal on really good ice cream.
Celebrate with us!  It's our anniversary!

The last questions...

Ten years ago, Dan and I bought the orchard.  To celebrate we're posting two questions each week over five weeks that only my e-mail newsletter subscribers receive.  Each question represents one year of farming!

Last week's questions and answers:

7. During the year you can come to the farm to pick some things yourself.  What do we have for u-pick and what months can you pick those items?
Blueberries in July, Apples in September and October, and Pumpkins in October (plus last weekend of September)

8. What social network are we on?
Facebook

Here are this week's questions.  They must be turned in by midnight Monday because we will draw a winner Tuesday morning

9.  What is a corn cop?

10. How many apple varieties do we grow?

Answers can be found on our website!

E-mail me the answers and if you are correct I'll write your name on a card and drop it in a basket at the farm.  You have the chance to have your name on ten cards.  Answers are due by Monday.  On Tuesday we'll pick a name to win your choice of a beautiful Meadowbrooke gourd or a fruit basket, each with a $50 value.  I can't wait to pick a name!!
Thank You Program
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The thank you program cards are good for the entire season.  In the past we have closed in December and started new cards the following summer.  Because we are staying open in January your card will still be good in January.  Many of you are only one or two visits away from getting your discount.  Remember, after your card is filled (6 visits) we will add up what you have spent and give you 10% of that money back as a discount on your next visit.  Next season you will start with a new card so stop by today to fill up that card and get your discount.  :)  Merry Christmas!
Have a Great Week!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
