Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

I went to my son's Christmas concert this week and next week I will go to my daughters' concert.  Between the snow and the beautiful music you can't help but feel the joy of Christmas.  Now, if only we can finish decorating the tree!  The lights are on but there's been too many activities for the whole family to come together and hang the ornaments.  Maybe tonight...

At the farm, we are busy shipping all different varieties of apples, most going south.  You still have time to ship apples to your family.  This is new this year.  We have two different size boxes; one holds 20 apples and the other holds 40.

For your friends and family close to home, order a fruit basket.  We can add just about anything to your basket.  You can choose from our own honey, our own canned peaches, bakery mixes, or even a Meadowbrooke gourd.  You're welcome to bring in your own item, such as a hand made ornament to really personalize your gift.

We have order forms at the farm for both of these items or you may phone in your order.  The number is 432-2544.
In the Stand...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are selling decorative wooden ladders in the stand.  We have a number of different sizes available.  If "country" is your style, you'll want to come in and see these ladders.  Lean it against a wall and hang quilts or wreaths on the rungs, hang it from your ceiling in your kitchen and hang dried flowers and herbs on it, or put it outside with a big Santa for a Christmas Decoration.
Also in the stand: Christmas Wreaths, apples, potatoes, delicious jellies and bakery mixes.  Click here for a complete list of what produce is available in the stand.
Brand new bees wax candles are here, made from our own beeswax!  They are beautiful and smell wonderful.  We have regular tapers, cute bee hive candles, and also wax nativity scenes.  Stop by and take a look.  We're selling them quickly so if you don't see one of these items let us know, you can order them and we'll make sure you get what you want.
Don't forget to get your cider donuts on the weekends!  If you don't eat all of them, put them in a ziploc bag and they will be soft the whole week.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!
The kitchen did well for it's first year until the rain came this fall and our weekend attendance dropped.  So if you like ice cream, you'll like this...
I anticipated needing a lot of ice cream this fall (and as you know it rained 3 out of 4 weekends in October).  So I now have a lot of extra containers of great quality Hershey Ice Cream.  I paid more than $25 a tub.  I am hoping I can sell them because I will look a lot different next year if I have to eat all of it.  (Which of course I will - I can't let it go bad, right?)  So please help me to NOT double or triple my weight and consider buying a 3 gallon tub of really great ice cream.  Dan says thank you.  hee, hee.  I'm happy to sell it to you for only $20 a tub.  What a great stocking stuffer.  Well, how about a note in the stocking and you keep the ice cream in the freezer.  :)  Hershey makes wonderful ice cream and we have the top flavors!
Celebrate with us!  It's our anniversary!
The questions continue...
Ten years ago, Dan and I bought the orchard.  To celebrate we're posting two questions each week over five weeks that only my e-mail newsletter subscribers receive.  Each question represents one year of farming!
Last week's questions and answers:
I thought these were hard questions but I got answers back right away!  I guess they weren't as hard as I thought!
5. Andy Derr, one of our employees from Messiah College, made up his own job title.  I love it.  What is his job title?  Frozen Dairy Transfer Engineer (He is an engineering major at Messiah)
6. During peach season we often tell people to give the peaches 3-4 days to soften.  This is different from apples which you can eat immediately.  I know it's hard to buy peaches and not eat them right away, but we pick the peaches a little harder because ______________.  (Fill in the blank)  they are a very soft/fragile fruit and we want to prevent them from being bruised and smashed.
Here are this week's questions
7. During the year you can come to the farm to pick some things yourself.  What do we have for u-pick and what months can you pick those items?
8. What social network are we on?
Answers can be found on our website!
E-mail me the answers and if you are correct I'll write your name on a card and drop it in a basket at the farm.  You have the chance to have your name on ten cards.  Answers are due by this Thursday.  Right before Christmas we'll pick a name to win your choice of a beautiful Meadowbrooke gourd or a fruit basket, each with a $50 value.
January Hours
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The stand will close at noon on Christmas Eve Day and will remain closed until January 7th.  We will open again on Friday, January 8th and then be open every Friday and Saturday from 9 to 5 in January.  We will be closed Sunday through Thursday in January.  The apples will be sold out of bins.  They will be what we call "tree run," which means that they are not sorted apples; they are a mix of firsts and seconds.  You will be able to bag up your apples and we will be selling all of them for the "seconds" price.  We'll have cider donuts on those January days, so stop by and get them on your way to Roundtop if you're a skier!
Thank You Program
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The thank you program cards are good for the entire season.  In the past we have closed in December and started new cards the following summer.  Because we are staying open in January your card will still be good in January.  Many of you are only one or two visits away from getting your discount.  Remember, after your card is filled (6 visits) we will add up what you have spent and give you 10% of that money back as a discount on your next visit.  Next season you will start with a new card so stop by today to fill up that card and get your discount.  :)  Merry Christmas!
