Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

A number of people have asked us over the years about shipping apples and at the time we did not ship.  We have done some research on this and found the best quality foam packing material and boxes and the best carrier and have decided to start shipping apples.  We will use FedEx Ground to ship.  They use insulated trucks so the apples won't freeze - something that is very important!  So we have started shipping...just in time for Christmas!

There are two size boxes.  A single layer box holds twenty apples and a double layer box holds forty apples.  You can choose up to four different kinds of apples for the single layer and eight different kinds for the double.  The cost is $20 plus shipping for the single layer and $35.95 plus shipping for the double.  I just shipped a double layer box to my father in South Carolina and the shipping was $16 (just to give you an idea).  The biggest cost is the packing material, but we went with the best to guarantee your apples will arrive in great shape.

If you would like to ship some apples, you can the stand at 432-2544.
Celebrate with us!  It's our anniversary!

The questions continue...

Ten years ago, Dan and I bought the orchard.  To celebrate we're posting two questions each week over five weeks that only my e-mail newsletter subscribers receive.  Each question represents one year of farming!

Last week's questions and answers:

3. Who gave us the WONDERFUL recipe for Fresh Apple Cake? Dan's Great Aunt Winnie

4. What months do we offer Birthday Parties? August through mid-November

Here are this week's questions (these questions are harder - see if you can find them!):

5. Andy Derr, one of our employees from Messiah College, made up his own job title.  I love it.  What is his job title?

6. During peach season we often tell people to give the peaches 3-4 days to soften.  This is different from apples which you can eat immediately.  I know it's hard to buy peaches and not eat them right away, but we pick the peaches a little harder because ______________.  (Fill in the blank)

Answers can be found on our website!

E-mail me the answers and if you are correct I'll write your name on a card and drop it in a basket at the farm.  You have the chance to have your name on ten cards.  Answers are due by this Thursday.  Right before Christmas we'll pick a name to win your choice of a beautiful Meadowbrooke gourd or a fruit basket, each with a $50 value.
In the Stand...

Christmas Wreaths, apples, potatoes, delicious jellies and bakery mixes.  Click here for a complete list of what produce is available in the stand.

Order your fruit baskets now.  We make beautiful baskets with apples and other delicious goodies.  Choose from any items in the stand such as our very own honey, our own canned peaches, apple or peach salsa, salad dressings, or add a small Meadowbrooke gourd or other gift item.

Brand new bees wax candles are here, made from our own beeswax!  They are beautiful and smell wonderful.  We have regular tapers, cute bee hive candles, and also wax nativity scenes.  Stop by and take a look.  We're selling them quickly so if you don't see one of these items let us know, you can order them and we'll make sure you get what you want.

Don't forget to get your cider donuts on the weekends!  If you don't eat all of them, put them in a ziploc bag and they will be soft the whole week.

Enjoy this recipe for Roasted Pork Spareribs with Maple Syrup and Rosemary.  I put it in the "apple" section because it calls for apple cider.
January Hours
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The stand will close at noon on Christmas Eve Day and will remain closed until January 7th.  We will open again on Friday, January 8th and then be open every Friday and Saturday from 9 to 5 in January.  We will be closed Sunday through Thursday in January.  The apples will be sold out of bins.  They will be what we call "tree run," which means that they are not sorted apples; they are a mix of firsts and seconds.  You will be able to bag up your apples and we will be selling all of them for the "seconds" price.  We'll have cider donuts on those January days, so stop by and get them on your way to Roundtop if you're a skier!
Have a Great Week!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
