Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

Last week I was so excited to finally have high speed internet and not dial up...this week I'm back to dial up.  How very sad.  The power went out multiple times today and seems to have killed my high speed.  So after thirty minutes of waiting for my e-mail program to load I am just beginning to type this letter!

Oh well.  Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We ate lots of food like everyone else which meant no cooking today!  (That's the best part!)  Now we move on to getting ready for Christmas.  Starting this weekend we will have freshly cut Christmas wreaths.  I'm excited to pull out the decorations and hang the wreaths on our doors!

We have decided to try being open in January.  We will close the stand at noon on Christmas Eve Day and will remain closed until January 7th.  We will open again on Friday, January 8th and then be open every Friday and Saturday from 9 to 5 in January.  We will be closed Sunday through Thursday in January.  Because it is so much work to set up all of the apple baskets each week we will be selling all of the apples out of bins.  They will be what we call "tree run."  This means that they are not sorted apples; they are a mix of firsts and seconds.  You will be able to bag up your apples and we will be selling all of them for the "seconds" price.  This is the first time we've ever been open in January so this will be an experiment.  We'll have cider donuts on those January days, so stop by and get them on your way to Roundtop if you're a skier!

Unfortunately I didn't get a new recipe posted before losing my high speed so I am going to wait until next week to add a new recipe.  Sorry!

Celebrate with us!  It's our anniversary!

The questions continue...If you missed last week's newsletter that's O.K., you just missed my announcement of our anniversary.  Ten years ago, Dan and I bought the orchard.  To celebrate we're going to post two questions each week over five weeks that only my e-mail newsletter subscribers will receive.  Each question represents one year of farming!

Last week I gave the first two questions.
1. Who did Dan work for before buying the orchard?
Answer: Perdue Farms, Inc.  (He worked for Frank Perdue as a sales representative for central and eastern PA.)
2. What are Karen's favorite apples?
Answer: Gala, Jonagold, and Fuji (Although I need to add honeycrisp to that list!)

Here are this week's questions:
3. Who gave us the WONDERFUL recipe for Fresh Apple Cake?
4. What months do we offer Birthday Parties?

Answers can be found on our website!

E-mail me the answers and if you are correct I'll write your name on a card and drop it in a basket at the farm.  You have the chance to have your name on ten cards.  Answers are due by this Thursday.  Right before Christmas we'll pick a name to win your choice of a beautiful Meadowbrooke gourd or a fruit basket, each with a $50 value.
In the Stand...

New: Christmas Wreaths!  Plus we still have lots of apples and potatoes!  Click here for a complete list of what produce is available in the stand.

Brand new bees wax candles are here, made from our own beeswax!  They are beautiful and smell wonderful.  We have regular tapers, cute bee hive candles, and also wax nativity scenes.  Stop by and take a look.  We're selling them quickly so if you don't see one of these items let us know, you can order them and we'll make sure you get what you want.

Don't forget to get your cider donuts on the weekends!  If you don't eat all of them, put them in a ziploc bag and they will be soft the whole week.
Have a Great Week!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
