Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

Are you getting ready for Thanksgiving?  I have a huge amount of cleaning to do!  I'm still trying to make up for all the time I was at the farm this fall and not at home cleaning.  But this is what happens every year and somehow, someway I'll have the house clean in time.  For those of you cooking this year, I've included a recipe this week for sweet potato pone.  I'll also be making baked apples, a relatively new tradition for us.  Makes sense with all of the apples!

You can still order delicious, freshly baked apple, pumpkin, shoefly, or lemon sponge pies just in time for Thanksgiving.  Please call the stand (432-2544) with your order.
Celebrate with us!  It's our anniversary!

Ten years ago, Dan and I bought the orchard from the Mowery family. (So Dan changed jobs, plus we moved and had a new baby daughter!  What a year!)  Anyhow, ten years ago the stand looked very different.  We had one employee in the farm stand, no cash register, no credit card machine, and just a few stands of apples.  Things have changed, and I am thrilled with the changes.  Thank you to all of you who have been coming to see us each year!  We're already talking about the new things we'll be doing over the next ten years.

To celebrate we're going to post two questions each week over the next five weeks that only my e-mail newsletter subscribers will receive.  Each question represents one year of farming!  E-mail me the answers and if you are correct I'll write your name on a card and drop it in a basket at the farm.  You have the chance to have your name on ten cards.  Right before Christmas we'll pick a name to win your choice of a beautiful Meadowbrooke gourd or a fruit basket, each with a $50 value.

So here are the first two questions:
1. Who did Dan work for before buying the orchard?
2. What are Karen's favorite apples?

Answers can be found on the web site!  Have fun!!
In the Stand...

Lots of apples and potatoes!  Click here for a complete list of what produce is available in the stand.

Brand new bees wax candles are here, made from our own beeswax!  They are beautiful and smell wonderful and will be a nice addition to your Thanksgiving table.  We added some cute bee hive candles this week.  Stop by and take a look.

Don't forget to get your cider donuts on the weekends!  If you don't eat all of them, put them in a ziploc bag and they will be soft the whole week.  We had extras last weekend, put them in a bag, and ate them every morning.
