Greetings!
Happy October! The weather is finally cooler and it feels like fall. Perfect for a flashlight maze and tonight is the first flashlight maze of the season. It will continue every Friday evening this month. You may enter the maze anytime between 6:30 and 8:30. The entrance closes at 8:30. I realize it is still light at 6:30 right now, but by the end of the month it won't be and we didn't want to keep changing the hours. If you get chilly, you can hang out at the campfire with us!
To enter the maze tonight you must have a flashlight. If you forget, there will be some for sale. Maze admission is $7 for all ages. |

Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Every year there is a Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest at the Dillsburg Farmer's Fair. We sponsor this event by donating the prize money. You can help the fair by entering the contest! First place is $125 and the chance to compete at the State Farm Show in January. Second place is $75 and third place is $50.
You must be a PA resident to enter, and you may only enter one pie. To enter, you need to pick up a registration form (available at the farm) and send it in to the fair by October 10th.
Happy cooking!!
***We now have copies of the Dill Pickle at the stand (Your guide to the fair).*** |
Applesauce Class
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Monday, October 19th, you can come and learn how to make applesauce. It will be from 6-8 pm. The cost is $8, which will cover all supplies. We'll be using the saucemasters to make the sauce. Many people have thought about buying one but they weren't sure if they wanted to make the investment. Well, now you can come and give it a try and make a mess in my kitchen instead of your own! Call the farm to register (432-2544). Class size is limited to 10 people. There are just a couple of spaces left. |
Recipe of the Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This week's recipe is for honey noodles. Many of you know that we raise our own honey bees and sell the honey at the farm so I decided to go with a honey recipe this week. It contains sauteed garlic, thyme, basil, honey, and parmesan cheese. It's a great side dish.
This is one of my daughter's favorite recipes. Although I have to tell you that every time we make it now we have to re-tell a funny story. (That's what family dinner time is all about, right? Retelling funny stories, possibly making them funnier each time it's told!) Anyhow, Jess was visiting her grandmother (my mother) a couple of years ago. My mom was trying very hard to find food that Jess would eat (Jess is the tough one in the family when it comes to food). Jess asked for honey noodles. My mom thought "easy enough." She made a package of spaghetti, placed some on Jess' plate and then squirt honey over the top. Poor Jess. She didn't want to be rude, so she simply smiled and ate the noodles but as soon as she came home she told us all about Grandma's honey noodles and that she didn't really like it. The good news - I've raised her well. She wasn't rude or unappreciative to her grandmother! :)
So give this a try - but remember to saute the ingredients together! | |
