U-Pick and Corn Maze
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ U-Pick Apples for this weekend will be Cortland, Golden Delicious, and Jonathan. Hours are Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 11-5. Golden Delicious is a sweet apple and Cortland and Jonathan are moderately tart.
Just a reminder, that September is yellow jacket month. I strongly encourage you to not eat apples while picking. It attracts the yellow jackets almost immediately.
U-Pick pumpkins will start on Saturday, September 26th and be open every weekend through the end of October.
The Corn Maze is open this weekend. It's "bee" themed and you'll find little bits of bee trivia throughout the maze.
Flashlight mazes will be every Friday evening in October starting October 2nd (two more weeks). Everyone must have a flashlight to enter. Admission for the flashlight maze will begin at 6:30. Last entrance will be at 8:30. |
In the Stand...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Autumn Glo Peaches are still available. We're actually doing a last picking right now.
Fuji apples are also in the stand. These are an early variety of Fuji, called Daybreak Fuji. They are one of my very favorite apples! You can choose from seven different apple varieties this weekend.
CIDER is ready! Grab a pint to drink right away, or grab a gallon to share with your family.

New Classes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Monday, October 19th, you can come and learn how to make applesauce. It will be from 6-8 pm and the cost will be $8, which will cover all supplies. We'll be using the saucemasters to make the sauce. Many people have thought about buying one but they weren't sure if they wanted to make the investment. Well, now you can come and give it a try and make a mess in my kitchen instead of your own! Call the farm to register (432-2544). Class size is limited to 10 people.
We're also going to be holding a class called "Eating Smart, Moving More" in the near future. This is a grant funded program, taught by a lady from Penn Sate for low income families with children at home. It is a free class that will meet once a week for two hours, for five consecutive weeks. Each week you will make a new recipe and at the end of the five classes you will receive a certificate from Penn State Nutrition Links, a cookbook, meat and refrigerator thermometers, an exercise band, and lots of great information! Here is a brief summary of the course: Week 1 is an introduction and you'll make a fruit salad. Week 2 is fixing it safe and choosing more fruits and vegetables. You'll make a super stir fry. Week 3 is on planning for dinner and you'll make oven baked chicken nuggets. Week 4 is on shopping and getting the best buys. You'll make lasagna. Week 5 is plan, shop, fix, and eat and also on making smart drink choices. You'll make fruit smoothies.
More information on this class will be coming soon! |
