Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

It is definitely peach season and they taste delicious.  My new favorite treats at our ice cream window are peach milkshakes and peach sundaes, both made with our own fresh peaches.  We had someone ask us the other day how much weight we've gained since adding the kitchen...umm...probably some!  :)  But soon enough I'll be walking that corn maze and getting plenty of exercise!

We are nearing the end of Red Haven Peaches and next week (probably Monday) will start the Sun High Peaches.

Lots of newsworthy items for you this week...

York County Farmstand Tour
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This Saturday, August 8th, the York County Agriculture Business Council is sponsoring a farmstand tour in York County.  If you visit three of the fourteen participating farmstands you can go to one of two final locations to receive free peaches and ice cream.  The hours are 10 am to 3 pm.  This should be a really fun thing to do with your friends or family!
You get your free peaches and ice cream at one of the final locations: the York County 4-H Center located at 771 Stoverstown Road in York (just off Rt 116 West of York) or the Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education located at 4945 Horn Road in York (just north of the Hellam exit of Rt 30).  There will be a number of fun activities and bands at both of the final locations.
For more information you can call 717-246-3578 or visit www.hornfarmcenter.org.
We are one of the fourteen farms participating so we hope you'll stop by and visit us!  You can pick up your "passport" at any of the farms.  Each farm has a stamp to stamp the back.  Get 3 or more stamps and then head to one of the above locations.
We have flyers at the farm or you can print the flyer here.  Feel free to pick one up the next time you're here!
U-Pick Blueberries
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last day for U-Pick blueberries.  There are still lots of yummy berries waiting to be picked.  Skip the first four rows - those are earlier varieties.  You'll find plenty past these first rows.  The hours are 9 am to 1 pm.  Follow the gravel drive and come to the red shed to pick up a bucket and then have lots of fun picking.
Classes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our first class is on canning.  A wonderful lady from Penn State will come and teach the class on Thursday, August 27th, from 6-9 pm.  We will can peaches and green beans, which will show us how to use a hot water bath as well as a pressure cooker for canning.  Each person will take home a pint of each.  The cost is $11/person which will include all supplies and hand-outs.  This class is already full, but we will take a waiting list in case someone needs to cancel.  You can call the farm (432-2544) to be on the waiting list.
Due to the strong interest in canning, we will have a second canning class taught by the same lady on Thursday, September 17th from 6-9 pm.  We will make some applesauce and then can it.  The class is $11/person.  Please call the farm (432-2544) to register.
Once you are registered, please stop by or mail the check to hold your place.  If you cannot make it, let us know prior to the day of the class and we will gladly refund your money.
Cancer Society Fundraiser
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Did you know that in Pennsylvania alone, 191 people will be told today that they have cancer?

Help support our third annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.  Please consider donating something for our silent auction which will be held on Saturday, September 12th, and Sunday, September 13th.  We had a wonderful variety of items last year and I hope to have another great offering this year.

One hundred percent of the money will go to the American Cancer Society.

Are you an artist?  How about donating a painting?  Do you own or work at a restaurant?  How about a gift certificate for a free meal?  Do you sell Mary Kay/Avon/Pampered Chef/etc.?  How about a small gift basket?  Of course you can and should include your business card with your donations.  It's a wonderful organization to support and also a nice way to let the community know about your business at the same time.  Last year we had gift cards for services, parties, and lodging, as well as toys, food baskets, and homemade decorative items.

Everyone who makes a contribution to the auction will receive two free corn maze admissions as our way of saying THANK YOU for your help!

We've lost two employees who were also great friends over the past few years to cancer and I'm sure you know someone who has fought or is fighting cancer as well.  Let's all come together to support the research efforts of the Cancer Society.
Recipe of the Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And finally....if you've made it this far down the newsletter I think you will enjoy this recipe for Pork Chops with Peach Teriyaki Glaze.  Dan really enjoyed this recipe on a visit to my mother's, so she has shared it with me so that I could share it with you!  Enjoy!
Have a Great Week!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
