Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

Peach season has begun.  We have Sentry peaches right now.  I had my first peach a couple of days ago and it was DELICIOUS!  We will be picking peaches through the end of August.  The first peaches are a cling peach and the later you go into the season the easier the peaches will come off the pit.  Red Haven are our first "freestone" peaches, and they begin around August 1st, but I always tell people to think of them as a semi-freestone.  You will have some that come off the pit beautifully and others that just don't want to let go!

But don't let the "cling" stop you because the taste of the Sentry peach makes up for it!  I'm sure you'll love them.  Just remember to get your peaches about 3 or 4 days before you need them.  (I know, it's REALLY tough to have it sit on your counter and NOT eat it!)  But peaches need to be picked firm so that you can receive them in excellent condition and not have bruised peaches on the bottom of your box.

We'll keep you posted on the various peach varieties in the coming weeks!
In the Stand
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Delicious blueberries, peaches, cantaloupe, watermelon, apple sauce apples (Lodi and Transparent), sweet corn, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, green beans, potatoes, and onions.
At the concession window, you now have four lunch/dinner options.  We have Pork BBQ, Hot Dogs, Roller Cheeseburgers, and Roller Chicken.  The new "roller" items are actually cooked on the roller and are long and thin like a hot dog.  Make it a meal and you can have a drink, slice of watermelon, and your choice of fresh made applesauce, coleslaw, or a bag of chips.  Try a fruit milkshake for dessert - made with real strawberries, raspberries, or cherries.  My new favorite milkshake is cherry.
Recipe of the Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This week's recipe is Blueberry Stuffed French Toast.  It was given to me by Ty Strohl, who was a "corn cop" for us last fall in the maze.  He had so much fun that he's coming back again this fall.  The recipe sounds yummy and this is definitely the month for blueberries!

Speaking of the maze, we had some wonderful aerial photos taken recently and I will have them posted soon.  I'll give you the link next week.  The theme is honey bees and we are going to include fun bee facts throughout the maze so you'll be having fun and learning about a very important insect at the same time.  More to come soon!
U-Pick Blueberries
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
U-Pick blueberries continues through the end of July.  You can come on any Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday to pick.  The hours are 9 am to 1 pm (or until the plants are all picked - we encourage you to come early.).  Follow the gravel drive and come to the red shed to pick up a bucket and then have lots of fun picking.  It's an inexpensive way to have lots of fun with the kids or grandkids!
Classes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We had a GREAT response on classes.  I believe canning was the number one interest.  I am working on a schedule and will try to have something in next week's newsletter.  Thank you to everyone who gave us feedback!
Have a Great Week!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

P.S. - Here's a joke from my kids: What goes ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, thump?

A person laughing his head off.  (O.K. - that had NOTHING to do with farming, but I promised my kids I would share that with you!  Hope it made you smile!)
