Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

I hope you had a chance to try the Red, White, and Blueberry Squares from last week.  I made it for our family picnic last weekend and everyone really liked it.  (I actually made 2 desserts and the other was a FLOP so I promise not to pass that recipe on to you!)  But I thought the squares were delicious.  I was hesitant to try it due to the marshmallow creme because I'm not really a big marshmallow fan but when you mix all of these ingredients together it makes a delicious combination!  It doesn't taste like marshmallows at all.

Unfortunately, this week has been a little busier than normal for us.  All of my children are in a play this week so I have been playing taxi every day and I apologize to you for not having a new recipe ready!  So, anytime that I don't post a new recipe I'll try to pass along some good information and today it's about getting rid of fruit flies (see below).
In the Stand
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Delicious blueberries are available all month and the sweet corn is no longer from the Eastern Shore.  It is now Paulus corn.  You can get corm all summer long.
You can also get some great applesauce apples.  We made some fresh this week and it is now an option for the Pork BBQ or Hot Dog meal at the concession window.  Give it a try if you want to "taste before you buy!"
Blackberries will be the new item of the week.  We should have some by the middle of the day.  And the item that we are most asked about...Peaches...they are not here yet but will be very soon.  Dan is guessing about 7-10 days.
Fruit Tip
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you love having fresh fruit in your house, you may have some unwelcome guests...fruit flies.  I don't remember anymore who told me this trick, but I use it every year and it works very well.  The best way that I have found to get rid of them is to put some vinegar in a small bowl (of course, I use apple cider vinegar so I can't tell you if other vinegar works!).  Then add about 3 drops of a lemon scented liquid dish soap.  Leave the bowl on your counter and the fruit flies will go in and drown.  Depending on how many flies you have, you may need to dump and re-fill your bowl frequently.

I hope this helps!
U-Pick Blueberries
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
U-Pick blueberries continues through the end of July.  You can come on any Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday to pick.  The hours are 9 am to 1 pm (or until the plants are all picked - we encourage you to come early.).  Come to the shed to pick up a picking bucket and then have lots of fun picking.  It's an inexpensive way to have lots of fun with the kids or grandkids!
If you have a favorite blueberry recipe, send it to me and I'll share it with everyone!
Classes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are thinking of adding something brand new to the farm - classes on various cooking topics.  Probably just a few to start to "get our feet wet."  But before we do I would love to know if there is any interest and if so, what you would be interested in.  So e-mail me back - or post your thoughts to our facebook page.

Possible ideas off the top of my head are making applesauce, canning peaches, canning vegetables, maybe dessert classes...what would interest you?  Let us know!
Have a Great Week!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
