Settings - A Cookbook
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A new cookbook called Settings: A Cookbook was just published and we are honored to be included in the book.
The author, Julie Sullivan, is the owner of Honeydew Events. She helps to plan spouse programs, VIP dinners, tours, and other off-site activities for people attending conventions in the area. She began collecting recipes and information about the many places she has visited and put together a cookbook.
Julie called me this past spring and asked if she could include our baked apples recipe in her book. She gave credit to both my mother-in-law and me in the book (it is actually my mother-in-law's recipe). It's delicious - if you haven't already tried it go to our recipe page and look for it in the apple section. Our family will be having it on Thanksgiving (although we have it more often than that but it makes a great addition to the Thanksgiving feast).
If you would like to see the cookbook or purchase one for yourself we have some at the stand. |
Recipe of the Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Twenty and fifty pound bags of potatoes are available at the stand so I thought it would be good to go with a potato recipe this week - Pittsburgh Potatoes. I just made this recipe Wednesday night and everyone asked for more. It doesn't take very long to make and the cheese sauce is a hit with kids! (and adults too!)
Are you cooking for Thanksgiving this year? There are a few recipes on the recipe page that I would recommend. Check out the recipes for Applesauce, Apple Crisp, Apple Roll, Baked Apples, Pumpkin Cookies, Pumpkin Pie Crunch Bars, Pumpkin Pie, or one of the Winter Squash Recipes. I hope they will help you have a delicious meal with your friends and family.
Don't forget the hot cider! Pour a gallon into a crockpot, add the cider spice to a tea ball, drop it in the cider and you've got the perfect drink for your guests. You can pick up all of the supplies (minus the crockpot!) at the orchard. |
Thanksgiving Pies
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can order some excellent pies for Thanksgiving, I recommend the apple and pumpkin. Please call the orchard at 432-2544 by Sunday and we'll have them ready for you to pick up on Wednesday.
