Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

Do you know what to make for dinner tonight?  If you're like me, you wait too long to think about it and frantically try to defrost something from the freezer at the last minute.  Or worse - order out - again.  The past three months have been so busy that we've ordered out way more than I care to admit.

But this week my focus is on potatoes.  Potatoes are healthy and quite filling.  If you don't know what to make for dinner tonight - how about a baked potato bar?  Bake a bunch of potatoes and put out a variety of options.  Butter, sour cream, beef stroganoff, chili, shredded cheese - get creative.  The recipe of the week has some toppings for you to try. (See "Potato Toppers" below.)

Twenty and fifty pound bags of potatoes are now available at the stand.  When you bake them, cook a few extra.  They'll be great to shred into hash browns or chop into an omelette the next morning.

In the Stand...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lots of apples!  Have you tried all of the different varieties yet?  There are still a lot of different varieties in the stand.  Come in and try a new one.
You can also pick up a neck pumpkin for a homemade pumpkin pie (find the recipe on our recipe page), winter squash, baked goods and more.
I used to cut my spaghetti squash before cooking it, but recently I had a customer tell me that she pricks the squash like you would a potato and cooks it uncut and slices it after baking.  Wow - wouldn't that be easier?  If you've tried to cut one open you know how difficult it is to do.  I'm going to try this new way!
Fruit Baskets
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you looking for a nice gift to take to dinner on Thanksgiving?  Fruit baskets are a new addition to the farm this year.  You will be able to order them and then pick them up at the farm.  I have had people ask me about fruit baskets for a while and I'm finally doing it.  I will have some example baskets at the stand by November 15th.  So...stay tuned...more information will be available in the next newsletter.

Potato Toppers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love potatoes and potato season is here.  These recipes are great on top of potatoes.  If you have a favorite potato topping, send it my way.
The first recipe is a chili recipe that comes from my mom.  The second is a recipe for beef stroganoff that comes from Dan's mom.  Both are great.
November and December Hours
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just a reminder that the stand will be open until Christmas.  We haven't set an exact closing date yet, probably the weekend before Christmas.

Weekday hours have been shortened by one hour.  November and December hours are Monday through Friday 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.

As the weather gets colder the big white doors will be closed to keep the stand a little warmer so please use the "people" door on the far right of the building.  Please don't think we're closed - we're just trying to stay warm!  :)

Obviously this won't be true for today - Can you believe this weather??  What a beautiful day.   I hope you can get out and enjoy it.
Have a Great Week!
