Paulus Orchards
Greetings!

My newsletter is late this week.  I always write it Thursday evening and send it out early Friday morning, but I just ran out of time this week.  I apologize.

The U-pick pumpkin patch is now open every weekend.  It's a lot of fun to wander through the pumpkins searching for the perfect one.  My children found "the perfect one" every weekend last year.  I had more pumpkins on my porch last fall than anyone I know.

If you have a third or fourth grade student you'll want to get an extra pumpkin for the Dillsburg Farmer's Fair Pumpkin Decorating Contest.  It's always fun to see how creative the children are with the pumpkins.  My two daughters are thinking hard about how to decorate their pumpkins.  Jessica is in third grade and Lauren is in fourth.

The Corn Maze and U-Pick Apples are also open this weekend.  The U-Pick apples for this weekend are Empire, Golden Delicious, and Red Delicious.  Too bad there isn't an apple decorating contest at the Farmer's Fair!

Dillsburg Farmer's Fair

The Fair will be held Tuesday, October 14th through Saturday, October 18th, with most of the events happening on Saturday.  Click here to go the fair's web site.

Every year we sponsor the Apple Pie Contest.  Do you have a great recipe?  You can win $125 for it!  You need to come to the orchard to pick up the registration form and pre-register by October 11th.  All of the rules are listed on the form.  You do not have to be a Dillsburg Resident - just a PA resident.  So come on out, get your form and some apples and start cooking!
Recipe of the Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week's recipe is Pumpkin Pie Spice Bars sent in by Gay Kirkpatrick.  She says she "has fallen in love" with this recipe and that it can be enjoyed cold with whipped cream, at room temperature, or warm with vanilla ice cream.  You can get your neck pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice at the farm and give the recipe a try!  Thanks Gay!
We love hearing about your favorite recipes.  If you have a great fall recipe, share it with us and we'll post it to the web site (and give you credit of course!).
Bob 94.9
Do you listen to Bob 94.9?  If so, have you heard our commercials?  This is the first time we've done a radio ad and I'm really happy with it.  I was able to go on air with Nancy and Newman a couple of weeks ago and talk about the farm.  They are really nice people.  I think they could have fun anywhere with anyone.  I really enjoyed meeting them.
Somehow we started talking about blueberries which really wasn't what I was going to talk about since they are in July - but Newman was really into blueberries.  Luckily we did talk about apples, pumpkins, and the corn maze as well.
The funny part - I never used to listen to country music before this year.  Now I have it on all of the time and know the words and sing along to many of the songs.  If you know me - that's amazing.  Funny, it somehow grows on you!  Maybe next year's project should be adding speakers to the maze and having country music in the cornfield!  (Don't tell Dan I'm even thinking that - he gets headaches from my project ideas!)
Anyhow, I'm hoping to get a copy of the interview so that I can post it to the web site.  I do have the radio commercial on the web site.  Click here to go to our main page to hear it.
