Greetings!
August is definitely peach month. Have you had peaches on vanilla ice cream this year? If not, what are you waiting for? This is Dan's favorite way to eat peaches. If you don't want to make your own peach sundae, you need to visit Reeser's Ice Cream in Lewisberry. They have the best peach desserts. It's amazing. If you have to wait in line - it's worth the wait. Guess where they get their peaches? (I hope that's not a hard question to answer!)
Red Haven peaches are available now. If you want Red Haven, you need to come soon. By this time next week they may be gone. Then we move on to our next varieties, Sun Hi and Loring. |

Pictures for the American Cancer Society
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You may remember Jessica and Lauren (and sometimes Matt) selling their art work last year to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. They are working on it again. They haven't been out every day so you may have missed them; it's tough for little kids to keep at it for really long periods of time. But they are trying to be out a good bit! Last year they raised just over $200 and they are trying to beat that this year.
We (the farm) did a fund raiser for the Cancer Society last fall. Half of all corn maze admissions for a whole weekend were donated to the Cancer Society. My kids wanted to help and they came up with this idea. Both fundraisers are back for their second year. The maze fundraiser will be the weekend of September 13 and 14. The kids will probably be selling pictures most of this coming week.
So, if you hear a little voice call out, "Would you like to buy a picture? We're trying to raise money for the Cancer Society," you'll know what they're doing. Pictures are only 10 cents. I figure anyone can spare a dime. If you choose to donate more, you will make their day. They get so excited and run in to tell me every time someone gives them more. Thank you to everyone who already bought a picture - either this year or last! |
Fall Weekend Employees Needed
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This will be the most fun job you've ever had!
Opening Labor Day weekend and continuing every weekend until November 2nd is the Corn Maze, U-Pick Apples, Wagon Rides, Play Area, and U-Pick Pumpkins (starting late Sept.).
This is the perfect job for Dads (Do you need a good excuse to not clean out the garage or cut the grass? Come play in the maze and we'll pay you to have fun!), Moms (Don't go to the gym or pay big bucks for a tan - we'll take care of that for you and it will be a lot more fun), or anyone who wants a great seasonal job.
Stop by and visit the farm and fill out an application or click here for an application and bring it in today. |
Educational Tours
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you a teacher? Fun Fall Tours are currently being scheduled. Most tours last about an hour to an hour and a half depending on the size of the group.
There are two tour options: an educational tour on agriculture that involves apple and pumpkin picking, a wagon ride, the small corn maze, and a play area or the corn maze tour which includes a wagon ride and the large six acre maze. Large covered picnic areas are also available for your use.
Many times are still available, but I am scheduling tours and fall parties daily so don't wait too long to schedule your trip. Click here to learn more about tours. |
Recipe of the Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week's recipe is called Zucchini Beef Bake. It is a main course. Inexpensive to make, and great tasting. Dan and my kids all love this. Let me know what you think! | |
