Greetings!

U-Pick Blueberries will continue on Saturdays and Tuesdays beginning at 9 am.  We're not sure what time the u-pick will end; it depends on how many people are picking.

Five Reasons why Saturday will be a Great Day to Pick Blueberries:
  • One. They are incredibly healthy, and who doesn't want to eat healthier?
  • Two. They are sweet and juicy.  My kids are eating them like candy.  Well, two of the three.  Jessica, my youngest, is holding out for peaches and sweet apples.  But Matt, my oldest, can somehow pick and eat them as he cuts the grass around the plants!
  • Three. The plants are loaded.  There should be plenty!
  • Four. The weather will be sunny and beautiful, not rainy like last Saturday.
  • And Five...You can grab a bag of Lodi or Transparent apples as well.
The early apples are being picked this week.  So if you've been waiting for that just-picked-apple, this is your chance!  Lodi and Transparent apples make excellent apple sauce.  They are tart apples.  The sweet apples will begin about mid-August.

The stand is not officially open, but Marisa will be at the stand until 1 p.m. to help you if you want some apples.  Ask her about her mission trip to Haiti.  She just got back this week.  We have some amazing employees!

We're hoping the stand will be open with peaches very soon - hoping for Monday, July 21st.  I'll let you know for sure in next week's newsletter.
Recipe of the Week - Nan's Blueberry Coffee Cake
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Isn't it amazing how often we associate certain foods with special memories?  Just this week I was e-mailing with a farm friend about apples.  She wants to make apple sauce just like her great aunt made it.  She can't wait to get those apples and start cooking them.  It will take her back in time to a wonderful place.
Here's another example, some of my extended family members just left for a well deserved vacation.  I don't know if they've done any sight seeing yet, but I've already heard that they ate at the same restaurant that they went to as kids over 30 years ago.  Amazing, isn't it?  Don't we all do that?  What are your favorite food memories?  I challenge you to take some time this summer and make those special foods with your children or grandchildren and share those stories!
This weeks blueberry coffee cake reminds me of the wonderful visits my husband and I used to have with his grandparents.  The coffee cake is delicious and the memories are even sweeter.  So give this recipe a try and let me know if you like it as much as I do.  I'd love to hear from you.  Here's the recipe.
