Greetings!
If you like blueberries, you'll want to read this e-mail!
U-Pick Blueberries will be open two days this week: Tuesday, July 1, and Saturday, July 5, beginning at 9 am.
Many of you know that this is our first year to have U-Pick blueberries. It's been a long time waiting. Three years ago we started with soil tests and preparing the soil for the plants. Two years ago we planted half the field with blueberries. One year ago we had to pick all of the blossoms off the plants so the energy would go towards growth. We also planted the other half of the field. This year we picked the blossoms off the second half - but - brought in the bees to pollinate the first half. The bees worked hard and did their job well. There are beautiful, big, juicy blueberries waiting to be picked.
That's the good news. Here's the bad - I don't know how many people to expect on Tuesday and Saturday since we've never done this before. So I don't know how long it will take for all of them to be picked. They're still young plants so this will be our lightest year. We do not have tons and tons of blueberries, but what we do have looks very nice. Please don't come late in the day - I can't promise we'll have ripe berries all day long.
So, if you're up for the fun here's what you need to know:
2. When you arrive at the farm, enter the parking lot and then turn left and follow the lane through the gate into the orchard. Continue on the lane until you reach the blueberry patch.
3. We will have quart boxes for you to fill, or you may bring your own containers but we'll need to weigh them.
4. Cost is only $2/pound. FYI - a quart box weighs between 1.5 and 2 pounds.
5. When you are done picking, come and see Dan or Amy on Tuesday (or me on Saturday) and we will weigh your blueberries for you.
6. Most importantly - have fun. :) You can see what the corn maze looks like - it's pretty cool to see it right now when it's only 2 feet high and you can see all of the paths.
I will send another e-mail after Saturday letting you know what days you can pick the following week (July 6 - 12). There should be blueberries for a few weeks. This is just the beginning so if you can't make it this week you'll want to come next week!
