A Subscriber Sends In Tips
-- WATCH THOSE HEADLINES
-- SOMETIMES IT'S THE COLUMN OR SECTION
-- SHOULDN'T YOU START YOUR MEMOIR?

Some subscribers have been on the lookout too for tips to share with me. In this issue, I give credit to my high school classmate Lynne, who contributed these tidbits. They are wonderful examples of how you should think before you speak--or write.

Enjoy (or degrade) these slip ups found in newspapers.

WATCH THOSE HEADLINES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the old days, they had specialists who just wrote headlines while the "real" journalists concentrated on the reporting. But now it seems as if everybody thinks he can knock out a headline in a minute. Here is what can happen when the wrong headline writer takes over:
"Tiger Woods Plays with Own Balls, Nike Says"
"Statistics Show That Teen Pregnancy Drops Off Significantly After Age 25"
"Fish Need Water, Feds Say"
"County to Pay $250,000 to Advertise Lack of Funds"
"Federal Agents Raid Gun Shop, Find Weapons"
"Alton Attorney Accidentally Sues Himself"
Often I have to upload files that are too large to send by email. Here's the solution I'll share with you...
SOMETIMES IT'S THE COLUMN OR SECTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don't blame the headline writers for not thinking. You can find examples in columns or classified sections:

Column: "One-Armed Man Applauds the Kindness of Strangers"

Classified: "Turkey: for sale. Partially eaten. Only eight days old. Both drumsticks intact. $23. obo."

Classified: "Tombstone: Standard gray. A good buy for someone named Grady."

Classified: HUMAN SKULL. USED ONCE only. Not plastic. $200 OBO.

SHOULDN'T YOU START YOUR MEMOIR?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My friend Sidney Offit is still getting letters of thanks from readers of his recent memoir, "Friends, Writers, and Other Countrymen."
It may be the age of the memoir--so many people have a great story to tell and want to get it in the hands of readers.
So Sidney and I put together a downloadable course. Click here for more information.
How do I send my hard copy messages from a hotel when they have no stationery kit? Using email, I fax my communications from my laptop. You can't beat the efax service. Here's a special offer
