 IMPACT Excels at Character Recognition
OCR tool solves Traceability, ID, sorting and quality inspections

OCR image PPT VISION's best-in-class OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool reliably reads even challenging dot-matrix print.

OCR versus OCV
OCR actually decodes readable printed text and is often used in sorting applications. OCV (Optical Character Verification) checks a character or character string against a known pattern. OCV is often used to verify that the correct date or lot code was printed. IMPACT effectively solves both OCR and OCV applications.

What Makes PPT VISION so Robust with OCR applications?
Challenging print surfaces and less-than-ideal character prints are repeatedly read by IMPACT smart cameras because PPT VISION's OCR tool has built-in thresholding and segmentation. If the OCR tool itself doesn't tame challenging prints, PPT VISION's powerful image processing tools, with capabilities not available on competing smart cameras can be deployed for reliable code reading.

 Ensuring a Complete Seal
Impact Inspects Adhesive Bead Placement and Coverage

Dispensed beads of adhesive or mastic are frequently used today as a better alternative to spot welding in automobile and other transportation equipment. In addition to proving a superior connection between body components, modern adhesive materials also provide sound deadening and other benefits.

Dispensing beads can have sticky issues at the applicator point that are not detected by monitoring the flow of adhesive material. PPT VISION IMPACT smart cameras step in here with custom tools and HMI interfaces to monitor dispensed beads. Programming the tool is a simple matter of clicking on a bead's origination. IMPACT's powerful algorithm takes it from there, snaking through the curves of the bead and monitoring it for width, length and any gaps.

 Bradley's Corner; Application Notes
 Happy New Year!

Bradley As some of you may have seen already we have added another application note to our website - Bearings. As a friendly New Year's reminder - you can find all our applications notes at pptvision.com in the Solutions section, http://www.pptvision.com/solutions.html.

The application notes are a great source of information for our partners and for our customers. They greatly help both the PPT VISION staff and our partner field engineers in creating better solutions for a particular customer problem.

We also get constant requests for more. We acknowledge this and plan to produce many more this year. We need your help. Though these notes seem easy, they require a lot of assistance. We need permission to use images and company names. We need to know what the issue is (describe the problem that resulted in a solved vision application), the cost(s) of leaving the issue unresolved and finally how did PPT VISION solve it -- images of VPM or CPM screens and a description of the tools deployed.
If you would like to contribute, please feel free to contact me at bweber@pptvision.com or Jeff Schmitz at jeffs@pptvision.com.
