This fall, the University of North Texas' College of Education and College of Arts and Sciences bring you The Key to Success for North Texans: Stimulus for Math and Science Education luncheon!

Proceeds will support students participating in Teach North Texas, a program created to encourage undergraduate math, science and computer science majors to seek teaching certifications. The program addresses a national shortage of teachers qualified to teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The lunch will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, 11:30 a.m. at Delaney Vineyards in Grapevine, Texas.

Facebook status from one elementary school teacher on the first day of school...

Mrs. Braddock is ready for the first day of school! I love the first day of school. So many possibilities! To all of my teacher friends make it a great one--we have the best job ever! To all my Mommy friends-they'll be home at 3:00 with new stories. Pray them up and send them on--we'll love them until you can again!

Welcome TASSP Members!

TASSP
The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and Friends of Texas Public Schools have teamed to bring a new benefit to your TASSP membership. Together, we hope to help you lift spirits, raise morale, restore respect, and bring a sense of optimism back to Texas public schools by sharing the strengths and achievements of our public schools with your staffs and communities. Too often the successes on your campuses and in your districts are hidden in the shadows of the day's negative headline. We need to work together to let Texans across the state know just how well our schools are performing. With that in mind, Friends of Texas Public Schools publishes a monthly email newsletter featuring the latest Texas public school successes. We encourage you to share these with your staffs and to visit our website (www.fotps.org) to read more about the great things happening in Texas public schools!

If you do not wish to receive this email newsletter you may opt out by clicking on the link at the top of this email.

ACT Scores Reach All-Time High in 2009

The Texas ACT composite score reached an all-time high in 2009 as did the number of students tested. Results recently released show that Texas public and private school students in the Class of 2009 earned a score of 20.8 out of a possible 36. The composite score has increased every year since 2005 when Texans earned a composite score of 20.2. Scores on ACT English, mathematics and science subtests also reached record highs for Texas students.

The Truth...

The Averaged Freshman Graduation Rate (AFGR) in Texas for school year 2002-2003 rose two full points over the previous year to 75.5%.

This exceeds the national average of 73.9% and does not include students who complete the GED program. The AFGR provides an estimate of the percentage of high school students who graduate on time. The rate uses aggregate student enrollment data to estimate the size of an incoming freshman class and aggregate counts of the number of diplomas awarded 4 years later.

Cool Campaign of the Month

Putting a face on Clear Creek ISD's Strategic Plan

The Clear Creek Independent School District recently revised its mission statement to reflect the direction the district will be moving in the 21st Century. The mission statement is as follows:  The mission of the Clear Creek Independent School District, a diverse community unified by a spirit of exploration and excellence, is to develop students who will lead the way to the future by educating and equipping them with the skills necessary to excel in the 21st century through a system characterized by meaningful community relationships and a comprehensive curriculum facilitated by a highly qualified team committed to Courage, Collaboration, Innovation, and Self-Direction.

In an effort to put a face on the mission statement and inspire staff and community members to fulfill the mission, the Office of Public Information photographed graduating seniors who exemplify the new CCISD (Courage, Collaboration, Innovation, and Self-Direction) and featured them in these inspirational posters to be displayed throughout the district and community.

Congratulations to the Clear Creek ISD Public Information Office for conceiving this outstanding poster campaign!
