Spring is coming, which means everyone here is gearing up for 

 

ARB's 27th Annual Gala and Performance: Olé!,

  • The School is preparing for Don Quixote on the home front, while Princeton Ballet School Director Mary Pat Robertson has been travelling across the United States, and soon to Rome, handpicking top talent for Princeton Ballet School's 2012 Summer Intensive.  Read her blogs from around the world here. 

  • The Access and Enrichment department has been busy entertaining and enlightening the community with the ever-growing On Pointe programs.  Coming up: Friday, February 24 at 5:15pm @ Princeton Ballet School, dance writers Michael Robertson and Barbara Figge Fox will join Company Director Douglas Martin at our February On Pointe, "Watching and Talking about Dance".  See the On Pointe sidebar and browse our blogs for more insights about our On Pointe events.  If you missed January's On Pointe with Simon Morrison, you can view the video HERE.

The Company
ARB's 27th Annual Gala and Performance, Olé!
will be March 10, 2012 at 7:00pm at Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton, NJ

Ole 
This year we will be honoring Alma Concepción, 2012 Recipient of the Audrée Estey Award for Excellence in Dance Education, and Charles Metcalf, for his outstanding contributions to the organization.

The performance will feature repertory previews and highlights by the Company and special appearances by Princeton Ballet School and DANCE POWER students.  A gourmet reception will follow the performance.  ARB's Annual Performance and Gala is always a great time in support of a great cause! 

  

March 17 at 8:00pm:  Spring Into Love

This program features the balcony scene from Douglas Martin's new
Romeo and Juliet, set to the lush music of Prokofiev, and a major revival of Gerald Arpino's ConfettiConfetti is a ballet for three couples choreographed in the spirit of the tarantella, set to the exuberant music of Rossini's "Semiramide" Overture.  To get a preview of this fun, bright ballet, watch this Youtube clip of a Joffrey Ballet performance here.

Spring into Love will also showcase world premieres by female choreographers.  Trinette Singleton, famed former Joffrey Ballet dancer, will choreograph a piece entitled Capriccios to Shostakovich's Piano Concerto #2.  Resident Choreographer and ARB Ballet Master Mary Barton will create a new piece specifically for ARB's male dancers.

American Repertory Ballet closes its 2011-2012 season with a feast of exciting and enchanting works.  Headlined by new excerpts from Douglas Martin's Romeo and Juliet the program will also feature Martin's new work, Pathways, commissioned by Career Transition for Dancers for their Annual Jubilee in the fall of 2011, Gerald Arpino's buoyant
Confetti, and other favorites from ARB's repertory.

at New Jersey Performing Arts Center 

 

ARB will perform the romantic pas de deux from Douglas Martin's Romeo & Juliet as part of this celebration of dance in New Jersey at NJPAC. 

 

March 30 at 7:30pm and March 31 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm:  
American Repertory Ballet will be featured guest performers at Rider University's annual spring performance.

Access & Enrichment: On Pointe 

"Watching and Talking about Dance" February 24, 2012 at 5:15pm

This On Pointe enrichment series event will explore how you, the audience member, can get the most out of your experience at a dance performance.  This free On Pointe event will feature guest lecturers Michael Robertson and Barbara Figge Fox.

"Dancing Your Way into College" March 30, 2012 at 5:15pm

This free panel will help students and their parents learn how schools consider dance training and other talents in the application process; understand different avenues and options for dancing in college; and navigate the financial aid process. 

 

On Pointe brings the dance world to you, with guest speakers, lecture demonstrations, performance previews and panel discussions.  For seasoned dance enthusiasts and new students alike.  Held Fridays, once a month, 5:15pm at the Princeton Ballet School's studios, 301 N. Harrison Street in Princeton:

Access & Enrichment Programs Supported by the NJ Council for the Humanities
The second installment of our three-part seminar series on Romeo and Juliet will take place on March 21at 5:00pm at Yvonne Theater, Rider University.  Entitled, "The History of Romeo and Juliet as a ballet" this lecture will feature Dr. Kim Vaccaro, Princeton Ballet School faculty member and professor of dance at Rider University.

On May 20 at 1:00pm at Victoria J. Mastrobuono Theaterpreceding the Company's 2:00pm Celebration performance, Jo Carney, Shakespeare expert and professor of English at The College of New Jersey, will present "Pre-Performance Insights: Romeo and Juliet" with Company Director Douglas Martin.

The first of the series, presented by Prokofiev expert and Princeton University professor Simon Morrison this January can now be viewed online HERE

These programs are made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
