| Greetings! |
|
Graham Lustig's The Nutcracker opened to enthusiastic crowds last weekend at McCarter Theater in Princeton, NJ accompanied by a flurry of activities in the community.
In addition to their exquisite performances on stage, members of the American Repertory Ballet and ARB's Princeton Ballet School hit the streets - often in full costume - to meet fans and participate in numerous community events including a Book Fair at Barnes & Noble; the Tree Lighting Festivities in Princeton's Palmer Square; pre-show Tea Parties; restaurant events at Mediterra, and at the 2009 Alumni Gathering honoring the late Joan Lucas and Ralph Higgins.
As the Nutcracker run continues, there are even more fun events coming up.
ARB is also proud to welcome Lees Hummel, as Director of Education and Outreach, and Christine Chen, as Director of Marketing, to the administration team.

| ARB welcomes Two New Members to its Administrative Team |
Lees Hummel joins ARB as the Director of Education and Outreach where she is already hard at work expanding the reach and quality of our Education and Outreach Program. Lees comes to the organization with a distinguished background in dance performance, choreography and education. After earning her BFA and MFA in Dance from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, she was a principal dancer with the Clive Thompson Dance Company and the New York City Jazz Company where she performed in works created by noted choreographers Danny Buraczeski, Bill T. Jones, Rosiland Newman, Maria Chang, Milton Myers, Rudy Perez, and Cliff Keuter. Lees has also performed extensively in musicals and musical theater reviews in amusement parks, dinner theaters, aboard cruise lines, in commercials, television specials, industrials, music videos, and on the silver screen opposite Frankie Avalon. Lees was a founding Artistic Director of the Nashville Dance Project, a professional contemporary dance company contributing to the education and inspiration of modern/jazz dance in the city of music for seven years, then became the Assistant Artistic Director of Momentum Dance Company in Miami, Florida where she re-staged choreographic works by Anna Sokolov and Doris Humphrey, was the rehearsal director, taught company class and choroegraphed for both Momentum's season as well as the Florida Dance Festival and the International Hispanic Ballet Festival. Lees received the Monticello Award for Best Young Choreographer of Regional Dance America, and her choreographic works have been premiered at numerous venues. For the past 15 years, Lees has been an Assistant Professor and Adjunct Professor teaching at the University of Miami, Miami Dade Community College, New World School of the Arts, Dillard School of the Arts Performing Arts High School, R.R.Moton Magnet Elementary, Conchita Espinosa Academy Middle School,Western Kentucky University, University of North Carolina, Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College, Wintrop University, and Southeast Missouri State University. She will bring all this extensive experience to her new role at ARB.
Christine Chen joins ARB as the Director of Marketing, where she is already hard at work using her experience in business and the arts to increase the visibility of ARB's company and school. Christine comes to the organization after a career in the dance world as a performer, choreographer, journalist, educator and manager. She received her early dance training here at ARB's Princeton Ballet School, and was a member of PBII (now ARBW) before turning her focus to contemporary dance while receiving her undergraduate degree at Princeton University. Christine earned an MFA in dance at the Ohio State University, then began her professional career in the San Francisco Bay Area where she danced with AXIS Dance Company, Flyaway Productions, Dandelion Dance Theater, Paufve Dance and other independent choreographers. Christine then ventured to New York where she joined STREB, an "extreme action" company. With STREB, Christine toured nationally and internationally, appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, in Cirque du Soleil's Midnight Sun, and in an international ad campaign for Puma. A little over two years ago, Christine decided to turn her energies from on-stage to off, where she feels she can make a bigger impact on the management and sustainability of the arts. She attended business school at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management and honed her industry chops as a Marketing Associate at the Napa Valley Opera House. She received her MBA last June and is thrilled to be involved with ARB once again.
Welcome to Lees and Christine!
