| Dear friends,
One of the unique characteristics of CTK is that we encourage people to follow the promptings of God and start ministries that traditional churches might never get off the ground. In this edition of CTKNews you'll get a chance to find out about two such ministries (Catapult Music and Free At Last Ministries). You'll also get to hear how God is providing in miraculous ways in Black Hawk, CO, and find out about a men's retreat (past) and a women's retreat (future).
Sincerely,
Director, Network Resources |
God Provides for Black Hawk CTK
|
From the very beginning, we've known that God was
definitely in our story here in Colorado. We've been meeting together for
almost 12 years, although not all that time have we been with CTK, (which has
been only 4 years). But we believe that when you remain faithful, God will
bless you, and boy, has He!
A couple of years ago, we had a lady donate to our
church the money that it would take to buy 20 acres of land. 20 acres! The
cost? $250,000. After going through all the 'stuff' you have to in order to get
the land ready to build on, which we did, we had a man approach us, and ask if
he could buy the back 5 acres, which we are in the process of selling to him
for the price of $113,000. Then, (and God's not done yet), we figure the price
of a modest building for our community would cost about $200,000, so we would
be short about $90,000 (minus some in bank). I mentioned that to our
congregation one Sunday and the next day, a good friend to us and the church,
(who wanted to remain anonymous), said that he and his wife would like to give
$45,000, so we could continue on with the new building.
So, needless to say, we are Praising God for His goodness towards us. Oh yeah,
we're having a concert this summer on our property, we're holding a land
dedication party, complete with teaching, music and a BBQ for the county. We
are also to the point that we are going to begin 2 services next month! We can
hardly wait to see what the Lord will do next!
Please continue to pray for wisdom for us as we go forward to reach this town
in the name of Jesus Christ.

| Lopez and Friday Harbor men retreat to Jones Island |
The annual CTK Island men's retreat was an outer island adventure this year. Thanks to a number of men and their boats, we motored and sailed out to an island north of San Juan Island called Jones Island.
Our teacher/facilitator Don DeJong encouraged the men to fully embrace their identity in Christ and live a life pleasing to God from the truth that when we are trusting Him, He is never more pleased with us (Hebrews 11:6). The men also learned that God uses conflict to mold and shape them into His image.

| Bumberpalooza 09 comes to Anacortes |
Wednesday, June 17th, Catapult Music is partnering with Youth Dynamics, Young Life, Anacortes Red Cross, Christ The King Anacortes, AM 1340 KWLE, and Penguin Coffee, to pull off a FREE last day of school waterfront music festival in Anacortes, at Washington Park. From 2PM through 10:00 ...live music, food, and fun. We are attempting to pull in 1000 teens and youth workers. We invited mainstream indie bands most of whom are not on the faith radar screen. (The Oregon Donor, The Globes, Slowly We Survive, Don't Tell Sophie, Corbin Watkins, Mission Orange, and The Lonely Forest) The objective is to create a positive, drug and alcohol free environment to shower encouragement, the love of Christ, and redemptive relationships upon the bands...and their fans, while giving kids the music they are listening to on 107.7. These bands are the next wave of the seattle indie music scene and well known among teens and twenties. Most all-ages venues in Seattle would drool over this line up! Bumberpalooza is sponsored by a coalition of organizations supporting the youth of Anacortes and Skagit County. There will be lots of families and young kids at this event and so we've asked the artists to be very aware of, and to adjust if necessary, any lyrics that might be offensive. We have made it clear that drug and alcohol use will not be accepted. There will be security and a significant youth ministry adult presence throughout the event. Rusty Van Deusen

| Tee It Up to stop human trafficking |
Mary Bron of CTK Sedro-Woolley felt compelled by God to do something to fight the evil of human trafficking. But what can a middle-class mother in a comfortable suburb do? Start a non-profit organization and begin raising funds, that's what! And so, Free At Last Ministries was started up, and a partnership with International Justice Mission was established.
The first major fundraiser for this important cause is the "Tee It Up To Drive Out Human Trafficking" Golf Tournament. The tournament (includes a banquet dinner and silent auction) will be held July 31st at Avalon Golf Links in Burlington. Cost for a team of 4 is $400, $125 for an individual golfer, and $25 for the banquet only. For full details and to register online, click here. |
| Women's Retreat Registration Open |
Registration for the 2009 CTK Women's Retreat is now open! The retreat will be held November 13-15 at the Cedar Springs Retreat Center in Sumas, WA.
The theme of the conference will be "Finding Your Joy", and will feature speaker Teresa Rinker and worship leader Carolyn Nichols.

| Is God Still At Work? |
In last month's edition of CTKNews, lead pastor Dave Browning invited people to answer the question "Is God still at work in the CTK story?" as part of our reflections upon where God has taken us as followers of Christ over the first 10 years of CTK, International. If you're curious to read what people had to say, go to http://isgodstillatwork.blogspot.com. | |
