Garden Center Success Seminar - This one-day intensive seminar is designed to boost your garden center's profit, performance, and people. When registering for New England Grows, just indicate your plans to attend this session on Wednesday, February 1 because seating is limited (and it's filling up fast, so don't delay!).  Speakers include Bill Taylor, best selling author and founder of FAST COMPANY magazine who will provide "Practically Radical" ways to transform your company, shake up your industry and challenge yourself; Chad Harris, owner of The Garden Gates in Metairie, Louisiana who's topic is, "Make Sure You Never Compete Again!"; and Kimberly Sevilla, owner of Rose Red & Lavender in Brooklyn, NY who will speak on "Reaching a New Generation of Customers."  You'll walk away with your own action plan to help you buck dire retail market predictions and fight for your business in these challenging times.  Click here to learn more about Garden Center Success.

Quality Education - In addition to Garden Center Success, some of the other seminars you can attend during the three day conference include: Exceptional Annuals!; What's Wrong with That Tree?; My Favorite 100: Perennials I Wouldn't Garden Without; Good Flowering Landscape Shrubs; Nursery & Landscape Weeds; How to Meet the Demand for Healthy, Organically Grown Plants, and many more, including business topics to help you keep your company competitive in today's challenging marketplace.

Energized Exposition - At this year's show, you'll find veteran exhibitors, as well as a host of new suppliers with great deals and innovations you'll find only at New England Grows.

Register today at www.NewEnglandGrows.org.

Volunteers Needed at NENA Kiosk - As always, NENA will have a presence on the trade show floor.  We're looking for NENA volunteers to staff the NENA kiosk and greet fellow (and future) members.  Click here to email Aley at NENA to learn more and to sign up.  Thank you!

..................

NENA's popular Annual Meeting & Breakfast is just around the corner, so be sure to register by January 25 if you plan to attend.  Registration is complimentary for NENA members in good standing, but pre-registration is required.

At the meeting, we will launch NENA's 100th anniversary celebration.  The milestone will be commemorated in a fun, and meaningful way, with a larger celebration slated for next September.  The meeting will also feature NENA's Green Leaders Business Book Club.  NENA members Tina Bemis, Ben Burdick, and Wayne Mezitt will deliver rapid-fire reviews of noteworthy books and will provide their business "take-aways."  It's a great way to learn about books that could have a positive impact on your business.  Hope to see you there!

A reservation made is a reservation guaranteed.  No-shows will be billed.
  In Memoriam
We were saddened to mark the passing of three NENA members over the course of the past few weeks: Arthur Georgaklis (Gaklis); Conrad Eastman; and Nicholas Casertano.  Notification of each loss was sent separately to NENA members.  Please contact the NENA office if we can provide any additional information.  NENA extends its deepest sympathy to the families and loved ones of those we have lost.

Boxwood Blight to be addressed at Grows

New England Grows has added a topic specific to Boxwood Blight --- a disease that is becoming a widespread problem throughout the region.  The seminar, "Boxwood Blight: A New Threat to Boxwood in the U.S." will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in Room 205 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.  Dr. Sharon Douglas of The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will present the topic.  It has been approved for pesticide credit from the New England pesticide bureaus.   Click here for a Boxwood Blight fact sheet.

CNLA's New President

Congratulations to Peter House, CANP of East Haven Landscape Products in East Haven, CT for being elected president of the Connecticut Nursery & Landscape Association.  Peter also serves as Vice President of NENA, so we know how lucky CNLA is to have him.  Congrats!

New Grandchild

Congratulations to Jeff Huntington, and the entire Huntington family of Pleasant View Gardens in Loudon, NH, on the arrival this week of Blair Huntington.  Beautiful Blair is Jeff's first grandchild born to Jeff's son Andy and his wife who live in Chicago.
