Tasting Like a Professional cute mouse drinking wine

Jump off the cliff with me...after all, who knows what's down there.  Take a chance, come and make the most of this tasting and learn the whys of why we like what we like.

There is no reason not to approach wine with a sense of pure pleasure, but enjoyment can exponentially increase when we walk away with the feeling that we have experienced something of value and broaden your wine knowledge.  The world of wine is all about history, geography, grape personalities, agriculture, culture and gastronomy...and most of all about people and their stories.  To taste wine is to taste a tiny bit of a country's history and culture.  It sheds its deep, ruby red glow over much of the world's literature, converse and manners.  It has been a symbol of peaceful and graceful dining at its best for centuries - - for all other regions of the world to share and enjoy.

This month it's all about Italian wines.  Come and learn how and why these wines taste as they do...and learn what it is that you like about each example we present in our tasting seminar.  Share and enjoy in the camaraderie created among us while participating on a wine and food journey of discovery of Italy.
The Center of the Italian Wine Universe KristinandRichard
I recently had the opportunity to visit Tuscany or Toscana as it is known in Italy. It is the center of the Italian wine Universe (in particular, Montalcino and Montepulciano). In Montalcino, I began my tasting tour in a wine shop in a castle where they serve the finest wines Tuscany has to offer. I learned that Sangiovese is varied and wonderful.

Then there are the Super Tuscan wines. These wines are made from Cabernet, Syrah, Sangiovese or a combination of these grapes (and others). The primary grape grown In Tuscany is Sangiovese and it is the most important native red of Italy.  In "Vino Italiano" by David Lynch and Joseph Bastianich, they describe the many faces of Sangiovese;

In sangiovese you get not only a telltale aroma and flavor of black cherry but a distinctive savory that roots the wine in Tuscany. A good Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino or Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has a foresty, smoky quality. Drinking it is like eating berries in the woods, the spicy scents of the underbrush mingling with the sweetness of the fruit.

For our tasting this month, I would like to share what I discovered on my trip to Tuscany,
