Every year, many Americans in Tunisia observe Memorial Day as well as Veterans Day at the 27-acre North Africa American Cemetery, located in close proximity to the historic city of Carthage, Tunisia. The site is the resting place for the 2,841 American soldiers who perished in North Africa during WWII . The site, also, includes a 364-foot limestone wall listing the 3,724 names of those whose remains were buried at sea or never found. The Cemetary is jointly maintained by The Tunisian Honor guard, the Sixth Fleet Band, and the American Battlefield Monuments Commission. |
