I recently read a quote from former Notre Dame Football coach turned sports commentator/analyst Lou Holtz that hit a positive tone for me. Coach Holtz said: "I won't accept anything less than the best a player's capable of doing, and he has the right to expect the best that I can do for him and the team."
What better way of accountability can we have than to follow the advice of Coach Holtz as we go about making our 2012-2013 NAIFA-WV year the most rewarding and successful ever.
As we begin this New Year, we find several challenges that await our work:
* Declining membership.
* Re-establishing the NAIFA value.
* Re-organizing/re-energizing our locals.
* Growing leaders.
* Improving services/programs.
* Improving advocacy.
* Operating in a technological business world environment.
* Cost vs. investment mindset.
* Selling our vision internally/externally.
* Reinventing the state to national NAIFA alignment.
Within each challenge listed above lies even greater opportunity brought forth by the actions we take, the plans we make and the solutions that we will produce. That is why more than ever, LEADERSHIP MATTERS!
As your new president I pledge no less than my very best efforts to diligently work with each member, each local and our state leadership team to foster the viable solutions to our challenges. In turn, I expect the very best effort and input from each member, each local and our state leadership team so that together we will find the winning combination that will allow our association to move from good to great.
That winning combination must include some simple results:
* Growing membership to no less than 330 members by June 30, 2013.
* Having 100% of locals with a full slate of officers and actively holding scheduled meetings throughout the 2012-2013 calendar years.
* Conduct quarterly updates of state association results/issues with membership.
* Growing interest in our state convention to no less than 125 attendees for the 2013 event.
* Growing advocacy participation to no less than 60% of membership totals by June 30, 2013.
* Conducting quarterly CE learning opportunities statewide throughout 2012-2013 calendar years.
* Conduct no less than 3 best practices teleconferences during the 2012-2013 calendar years.
* Have the state leadership executive team to visit and present a program for each local and or at large area during the 2012-2013 years.
* Re-establish the value of NAIFA statewide by June 30, 2013.
One individual, one team, nor one local can provide the entire solutions to our challenges. It will take ALL of US working together to make this happen. I feel confident that we can and WILL hit our goals by year's end IF we all, regardless of role, hold ourselves and each other accountable for results.
The role of leadership is not to do all the work but to insure without fail that the team is on track to achieve its goals. The leader must accept responsibility to convey to others not what they want to hear but what they need to hear so that success can be achieved. He must challenge the status quo while at the same time challenge himself to act in a way that is ethical; that is in accordance with the needs of the team; and, that inspires others to act so that the greater good can be achieved.
I expect each member to hold this president and the leaders of our locals as well as our state leadership team to the highest expectations. It is important what we say but it is more important what we do as a leadership team for the benefit of NAIFA-WV.
LEADERSHIP MATTERS! PARTICIPATION MATTERS! Together, let's re-kindle the value that NAIFA can provide. Together let's re-invent greatness for NAIFA-WV! Together let's rediscover the value of winning and learning so that we not only prosper but our clients and customers do too!

ATTENTION NAIFA-WV LOCAL
LEADERS & COMMITTEE CHAIRS
First, let me thank you for your time and commitment to NAIFA-WV. I sincerely appreciate your willingness to serve as an Officer or Committee Chairman for the 2012-2013 year.
We have planned our Area Leaders Conference (ALC) on Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Days Inn, Flatwoods, WV. A continental breakfast will be served at 9:00 a.m. and the meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. Lunch will also be provided for all attendees.
This is the most important meeting of the year and gives us an opportunity to meet will all the local leaders and committee chairman to help them plan a successful year. Membership will be the key focus and we will review a variety of resources available via the NAIFA website and help you develop a plan for your local.
It is imperative that every local leader plan to attend this meeting as we need your input and ideas as we plan our Association year. I can assure you that the meeting will be productive, informative and fun. Most of all, you'll leave with a new vision for NAIFA-WV and the opportunity to become a part of something very special!!
WE NEED YOUR ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION AT THIS MEETING as it is critical to the continued success of NAIFA-WV and more importantly our members. If you cannot attend, please make arrangements to send someone on your committee.
